You may have sensitivity and absorb negativity from the environment that is lifted and relieve you when you cut your hair. Try wearing a head cover.
A lot of light also can put a pressure on people. some stressful situations may lead a person to pull his hair to release some energy.

To protect a child energy we don't cut their hair until after three years. This to give them time to absorb the energy stronger while their soft spot is still opened.

Thank you for the question Stephen,
The Yod is the beginning of everything. It is the only letter that doesn't connect to the baseline. It is always there. When a scribe writes the Torah he need to put a dot on the parchment before he write any letter. That dot is the Yod of the name YHVH and it brings the Light to the letter/vessel. so every letter in the Torah has a Yod behind it, even the letter Yod itself.
Tzaddik is called Yessod Olam (Foundation of the world) Yod + Sod = Secret of the Light. The work of a tzaddik is to connect the light, Yod, from above to the world below.

That is another aspect of it. That is why it is recommended for a spiritual married woman to cover her hair and not let others touch it. It is the woman and her family light.

You understand it very well Kae. There are even special days of the month for cutting hair that are preferable than the others. We will have this information on http://Astrology.Spiritually.com when the site will be ready with all the features. Some women feel disoriented when they cut their hair in the wrong day of the month, even if it is their best hair stylist.

It is interesting that you write: "the work of the "Tzaddik is to be like Yessod...connect(ing) upper and lower using the Vav as a pipe to channel down the light."

This morning, I was describing to my daughter the experience of giving birth to her. One of the primary sensations I had was of being a "silver pipe" connecting Heaven and Earth. This sensation was simultaneously physical and spiritual. It was absolutely extraordinary.

***
I have always been uncomfortable having my hair cut by a hairdresser who is basically a stranger. For the last several years, my husband, who practices Kabbala and studies/scans the Zohar, cuts my hair. I will have it no other way....The whole body is sacred, but especially the head. Perhaps this passage offers the explanation for my choice of hairstylist..
