Numbers 25:1
“וַיֵּשֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵל, בַּשִּׁטִּים; וַיָּחֶל הָעָם, לִזְנוֹת אֶל-בְּנוֹת מוֹאָב”
“And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people (Erev Rav) began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab.”

Numbers 25:2
“וַתִּקְרֶאןָ לָעָם, לְזִבְחֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶן; וַיֹּאכַל הָעָם, וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לֵאלֹהֵיהֶן.”
“And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people (Erev Rav) did eat, and bowed down to their gods”

Numbers 25:3
“ וַיִּצָּמֶד יִשְׂרָאֵל, לְבַעַל פְּעוֹר; וַיִּחַר-אַף יְהוָה, בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל”
“And Israel joined came closer to the Baal of Peor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel”

The Erev Rav was the first to get tempted from the sex offered by the daughters of Moab. We read in verse 2 above that they immediately followed them and submit to their god, Baal Peor that was one of the lowest forms of idol worshiping. The Erev Rav brought offerings and bowed to him.

The Israelites that sinned with the women came close to Baal Peor but they didn’t make deeper connection to it. Because of that, Pinchas could save them.

The physical and material pleasures are the first cause of spiritual distraction. Serious lack or excessive desires for the material takes a person away from connection to the Light.

When we are in control of our desires we have better chance for spiritual growth.

It is easy for a woman to control a man through sex and a couple that respect each other should schedule times to reduce or eliminate relationship imbalance.

Food can be a great spiritual connection but when it is not controlled, then the thoughts of a person gets focused on the next meal rather than the next positive thing to do.

The sages taught us “איזה הוא גיבור הכובש את יצרו”, “”Who is a hero – that conquers his desires”.

Numbers 25:3
“וַיִּצָּמֶד יִשְׂרָאֵל, לְבַעַל פְּעוֹר; וַיִּחַר-אַף יְהוָה, בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל”
“And Israel joined himself unto the Baal of Peor; and the anger of YHVH was kindled against Israel.”

Rabbi Elazar quotes this verse and says that in addition to the Erev Rav the Israelites were also part of the cause of negativity that started the plague.

Rabbi Shimon answered that they were saved from the angel of death and the plague but they were not purified from the actual negativity.

The Zohar teaches us that when the Torah mentions ‘the people’ or ‘the nation’ it refers to the Erev Rav. The Israelites are referred to as ‘the children of Israel’ or ‘Israel’. In the verse below the Israelites who participated in the sin are called ‘ראשי העם’ ‘the Chiefs of the people’, a form that lowered them to the level of the Erev Rav. The word ראשי ,’chiefs/heads’ has 4 letters of the word Israel, missing the letter ל Lamed that goes above the line and reach higher level. The numerical value of its elements (Kaf and Vav) is 26 as YHVH.

Pinchas saved them from the automatic judgment so they can be ‘judged’ and be cleansed properly. This gave them a better way to correct their sin in the next incarnations. The people that sinned hang in front of all the people so that experience will help in the cleansing and correction of the other people. We read that in Numbers 25:4
“ וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, קַח אֶת-כָּל-רָאשֵׁי הָעָם, וְהוֹקַע אוֹתָם לַיהוָה, נֶגֶד הַשָּׁמֶשׁ; וְיָשֹׁב חֲרוֹן אַף-יְהוָה, מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל”
“And YHVH said unto Moses: ‘Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto YHVH in face of the sun, that the fierce anger of YHVH may turn away from Israel.’”

After the sin of the Golden Calf, Moses gathered the Israelites to give them opportunity to separate themselves from the Erev Rav.

Exodus 35:1
“ וַיַּקְהֵל מֹשֶׁה, אֶת-כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל”
“And Moses assembled all the congregation of the children of Israel”
Their opportunity to correct was by giving from what they had at their own free will to the work of the Holy tabernacle. When they connected their energy with the Holy, it helped them cleanse themselves.

Exodus 25:2
“ דַּבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְיִקְחוּ-לִי תְּרוּמָה: מֵאֵת כָּל-אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִדְּבֶנּוּ לִבּוֹ, תִּקְחוּ אֶת-תְּרוּמָתִי”
“’Speak unto the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering; of every man whose heart maketh him willing ye shall take My offering”

The lessons from this Zohar is that even if righteous person positively influences the spiritual level of the people around him, they are still responsible for their actions. Another lesson is that making an effort in any way you can to support the spreading of light in the world is a positive connection that helps with spiritual cleansing and elevation.

Numbers 25:8
“וַיָּבֹא אַחַר אִישׁ-יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל-הַקֻּבָּה, וַיִּדְקֹר אֶת-שְׁנֵיהֶם–אֵת אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְאֶת-הָאִשָּׁה אֶל-קֳבָתָהּ; וַתֵּעָצַר, הַמַּגֵּפָה, מֵעַל, בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.”
“And he went after the man of Israel into the chamber, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. and the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.”

Numbers 25:9
“And the dead in the plague, twenty and four thousand. “
(I modified the corrupted English translation to match the real meaning. Zion)

The Zohar raises the question to why the plague was stopped and then there were twenty four thousands dead. The explanation that follows is very clear when the Zohar points to the words ” and the plague was stayed from the children of Israel “. There were many Erev Rav (Mix multitude) that came out of Egypt with the Israelites. They followed the miracles that happened to the Israelites and wanted to enjoy that connection. They came with selfish reasons and this is a state of death because selfishness stops the light from continuing.

The Zohar explains that death spread among the Erev Rav and those who got mixed with them in marriage. Their consciousness was weak and selfish and already in a state of death as verse 9 above says it.

The previous verse clearly says that the plague stopped from getting to the children of Israel.

The simple lesson is that it is impossible to connect to the Light with selfish reasons. That would only make us more receptive to aspects of negativity.

Pinchas 467-468

Numbers 25:11
“פִּינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן-אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן, הֵשִׁיב אֶת-חֲמָתִי מֵעַל בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּקַנְאוֹ אֶת-קִנְאָתִי, בְּתוֹכָם; וְלֹא-כִלִּיתִי אֶת-בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּקִנְאָתִי”
“’Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was very jealous for My sake among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in My jealousy.”

The Zohar brings additional revelations related to the ‘jealousy’ of Pinchas.

The letter מ Mem is the aspect of the male of the other side and the letter ת Taf is the aspect of female of the other side (Sitra Achra). The letter ו Vav from the word for death, מות is the aspect of Yessod that connects the male and the female of the other side and brings death on the living.

Before Pinchas intervened, the Israelites were in sexual relation with the daughters of Moab. That action connected the Vav, which is Yessod of the pure side with the Malchut of the other side. The light and energy of the Israelites started draining to the other side. God asked Moses to remove the people that were involved with the negativity so (Numbers 25:$) “the fierce anger of YHVH may turn away from Israel.’”

God’s anger קנאה is a cleansing process as we explained in previous studies. It removes the negativity from existence. Moses began the cleansing process when Zimri, the head of the tribe of Shimon and Cozbi, the daughter of the head of the Midianite engaged and escalated the negativity to a higher level. That action required higher level of response. The letter Mem in the sky was getting filled with impure blood and Pinchas had to jump and grab it before the angel of death.

The verse above says that Pinchas was jealous ‘among them’, ‘בְּתוֹכָם’. The Hebrew meaning is ‘in their midst’ בתוכ the letter ם Mem. Mem is the 13th letter of the Alef Bet and represent the balance and the connection to YHVH as it is constructed from the letters Kaf כ and ו vav that numerically equal to 26 as the YHVH.

Pinchas was ready to die and he went among the people to save them. In the full story he did die and was resurrected immediately with the souls of his uncles, Nadav and Avihu who also gave their lives for a higher purpose.

The first lesson that I want to bring here is that God’s anger is an effect to a cause of negativity from the lower levels. Its purpose is of cleansing it and we should not complain about ‘Why God is mean to me…’.

Second lesson is that we can stop God’s anger with positive actions. In the world of correction, we benefit from the element of time. It is the aspect of mercy that gives us time to correct before the ‘anger’ comes into our lives.

Pinchas 464-466
Continue from previous DZ

Pinchas saw the letter מ, Mem, flying and forming in the sky. That was the mark of the angel of death that wanted to connect it with the letters ו Vav and ת Taf. The three letters מות spells ‘death’. Pinchas, who previously connected the right and the left column, grabbed the letter מ Mem and bonded with it. The angel of death saw it and turned back from his plan.

The Zohar explains the deeper meaning and reveals that when Pinchas connected with the Left, his name received the numerical value of 208 and Isaac (left column). The added מ Mem with its numerical value of 40 brought the total to 248. That is what’s written in Numbers 25:7

“וַיַּרְא, פִּינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר, בֶּן-אַהֲרֹן, הַכֹּהֵן; וַיָּקָם מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה, וַיִּקַּח רֹמַח בְּיָדוֹ”

“And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it (the negatity and the letter Mem forming for the angel of death), he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took (the letter Mem) a spear (רמח) in his hand.”

The ‘Spear’, רמח, has the numerical value of 248. With this power, Pinchas could break the negative side and stop death.

The Zohar reveals another secret about the aspect of death. The root of it is in the first sin when Eve ate from the ‘forbidden fruit’ and gave to Adam.

Genesis 3:6
“וַתִּקַּח מִפִּרְיוֹ, וַתֹּאכַל; וַתִּתֵּן גַּם-לְאִישָׁהּ עִמָּהּ, וַיֹּאכַל.”
“she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”

Obviously the translation has very little value and without the Hebrew we can never reveal the deeper secrets.

mavet_gen3_6

As we see here, the first box (from right to left) shows the letter מ Mem of the word מות, ‘Death’ that was waiting for the negative action of Eve connecting her to death and that is what happened in the following word. The third part is the connection of Adam to death. At that moment death was created in the world.

Our connection to the fruit of the Tree of Life that is the Zohar can save us from death, temporarily but with global unity and more people connecting to the Zohar we can open the path for Mashiach to come down and remove death from the world.

Feed yourself and friends with the fruits of the Tree of Life because all other ways lead to death.
