Pinchas 493-495

Deuteronomy 32:11
“Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions (אֶבְרָתוֹ)”

The Eagle is the aspect of the Shechinah that protects us. The word אֶבְרָתוֹ, is translated as ‘pinions’. It has the root word אבר, which means body part. The Zohar explains that our study of Torah is the protection of the Shechina to our body parts and gives us strength.

The verse below from the prophecy of Balaam who came to curse the Israelites but ended up blessing them, reveals the power and protection that the Israelites had in the wilderness.

“How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, thy dwellings, O Israel!”

This verse appears in the Torah scroll at the top of the column. The word מה has numerical value 45 as the YHVH name representing Zeir Anpin יוד-הא-ואו-הא. The dwellings of the Israelites were protected because they had the protection of the Shechina and were arranged in a special form around the Holy Tabernacle.

And
Numbers 24:25
“and said: Though firm be thy dwelling-place, and though thy nest be set in the rock;”

King David appreciated the protection he received from the Shechina and in his song he said (2 Samuel 22:2)
“and he said: YHVH is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;”

The Shechina is the aspect of the letter H ה of the יהוה YHVH name. We do not bless her directly because she will not reveal herself or support us unless we do the work of connecting her with the Light. She (H) is always there for us but we must do the work (V) so she can be elevated and connect to the upper levels (YH) to allow the light to flow down to us.

The Zohar tells us that the light comes to the body parts that we use to make good actions, precepts. If we meditate for the success of others, we are blessed with that energy. If we share our talent, we get better at it. If we reach out with our hands to support others, we get the light that supports our work and whatever we share.

That is the promised reward of “יִשָּׂאֵהוּ עַל-אֶבְרָתוֹ” “bearing them on its pinions (אֶבְרָתוֹ)”. The Zohar adds that the first three letters יִשָּׂאֵ of יִשָּׂאֵהוּ, ‘bearing (carry) them’ connects to the blessing of the Priests (Kohanim) from Numbers 6:26 “ יִשָּׂא יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ, וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם” “YHVH lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace”
