Yessod is the Sefirah that makes the connection to the upper world and allow the flow of light to Malchut. The literal meaning of Yessod is ‘foundation’. Without the foundation there is no existence for the building.
We usually look at the Tree of Life from top to bottom, Keter to Malchut. It looks like Malchut is the base/foundation but the opposite is true. Keter is the root and the concealed source of everything in existence. Chokmah and Binah receive the life force from Keter and continue on the way to the ‘surface’, which is the revealed aspect of Malchut. Yessod is the deliverer of light to Malchut, which cannot exist without the Light and therefore Yessod is the foundation of Malchut.
Tzadik (a righteous person) is called ‘Yessod Olam (world)’ because his work of bringing Light to the world strengthens its foundation.
The Holy Tabernacle provided access to the Light and with the process of sacrifices Yessod was activated to draw the light to Malchut. Nadav and Avihu wanted to make one and final correction of Yessod creating continuous flow of light to the world.
The word Tikkun תיקון has the root תקן which means ‘installation’. A Tikkun installs/fixes/makes permanent installation of the light where it should be.
The negativity of Zimri and Kozbi (portion of Balak) was created when Zimri of the Children of Israel and the right side of the Tree of Life engaged himself in a sexual act with the other side that was represented by Kozbi, the daughter of one of the heads of the Midyanites. The man’s penis is the aspect of Yessod (brings life to the world) and the woman’s womb is the vessel. Balak knew the spiritual system and since his plot with Balaam didn’t work, he sent the women to draw the energy of the Israelites from their Yessod.
Pinchas killed them and made a correction to the broken Yessod. That affinity with the action of Nadav and Avihu merited him immortality.
The Zohar of this portion quotes Psalms 128:5 (Please read this 6 verse long chapter. http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt26c8.htm)
“יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה, מִצִּיּוֹן: וּרְאֵה, בְּטוּב יְרוּשָׁלִָם–כֹּל, יְמֵי חַיֶּיךָ”
“YHVH bless you from Zion, And may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.”
Zion is a spiritual place that represents Yessod of Malchut. The blessings come from Zion, which is Yessod. Its spiritual point of connection to the world is above the city of Jerusalem in the Holy Land. That is why the Holy Temple was built there. The third and final Holy Temple will be revealed on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with uninterrupted flow of light to the world.
Kind David, the author of Psalms in this 6 verse long chapter reveals the great benefits of following the ways of YHVH. Everything we do should reflect the work of connecting the six Sefirot of Chessed to Yessod with Malchut. Only then, we can enjoy the benefits of long life and the final peace.
“וּרְאֵה-בָנִים לְבָנֶיךָ: שָׁלוֹם, עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל”
“and you’ll see your children’s children. Peace upon Israel!”
The next DZ will explain the true meaning of ‘Zionism’ and the Return to Zion (not the Matrix movie)
