Zohar Ki Tetze

Deuteronomy 22:28
“כִּי-יִמְצָא אִישׁ, נַעֲרָ בְתוּלָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא-אֹרָשָׂה, וּתְפָשָׂהּ, וְשָׁכַב עִמָּהּ; וְנִמְצָאוּ.”
“”If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered,”
“וְנָתַן הָאִישׁ הַשֹּׁכֵב עִמָּהּ, לַאֲבִי הַנַּעֲרָ–חֲמִשִּׁים כָּסֶף; וְלוֹ-תִהְיֶה לְאִשָּׁה, תַּחַת אֲשֶׁר עִנָּהּ–לֹא-יוּכַל שַׁלְּחָהּ, כָּל-יָמָיו”
“then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days.”

The Zohar reveals a special explanation to the above verses.
The אִישׁ, ‘man’ that finds a girl is the aspect of the Israelites from the side of the Holy One Blessed be He. The ‘virgin’ is also the Israelites from the aspect of the Shechinah that is called ‘daughter’.

The Israelite ‘seize’ the Shechinah with the Tefillin and with following the precepts. He ‘lies with her’ is the aspect of unifying the central column and Malchut. ‘Give to the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver’ is the aspect of the 25 letters of the Shema Israel verse and 25 letters of the “Baruch shem…” line that follows and manifests the unification of upper and lower.

The word for ‘girl’ in Hebrew is נערה but in this portion of the Torah the word appears as נער as you would write the word for ‘boy’. The ‘girl’ here is without the letter H ה that represents Malchut and it means the state of virginity when the girl never unified with a man.

When we do spiritual connection to unify above and below, male and female, we draw the life force, which is represented by the letter H ה of Binah, to the Shechina in Malchut. The girl that was נער, now has the additional ה and becomes נערה. When she is ‘seized’ (unified) by a man she becomes his wife אשה all his days.

A husband is called ‘בעל’, which means ‘owner of’. ‘her husband’ is ‘בעלה’ that means ‘owner of ה’. The ‘owner’ part is to describe that a man has to earn and own the Light that he draws to the vessel, which is his wife and Malchut. It is definitely not in the aspect of material/object ownership.
With this study we can understand the Torah laws related to a husband and wife in Deuteronomy 24.

Proverbs 12:4
“אֵשֶׁת-חַיִל, עֲטֶרֶת בַּעְלָהּ”
“A woman of valor is the crown of her husband (בעלה)”
When the wife manifests the Light her husband draws spiritually into her vessel, she becomes as a crown that decorates him.

Unmarried women (never been married, divorced or widowed) have great abilities to draw Light on Shabbat. On that day Malchut ה is elevated to Binah ה and the Light flows automatically. Candle lighting, three meals with Kiddush (when no men around, a women can and should do Kiddush by herself), listening to the Torah and studying Zohar are the best ways for a woman to draw great Light into her life.

The spiritual work during the week prepares and expands the vessel to receive more Light on Shabbat.
