In the coming days before Pesach the Daily Zohar will bring you studies related to this important holiday.

Pessach is our first major holiday and represents the right column, Chessed. It is celebrated on the day of the full moon of the first month of the year, which is Nisan (Aries).
Exodus 12:2
“הַחֹדֶשׁ הַזֶּה לָכֶם, רֹאשׁ חֳדָשִׁים: רִאשׁוֹן הוּא לָכֶם, לְחָדְשֵׁי הַשָּׁנָה”.
“This month shall be unto you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.”

With the month of Nisan we start six months of male energy. The Light of Zeir Anpin is revealed in its fullness on the night of the Seder and seven weeks later on Shavuot.

Kabbalist Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh, in his book “Kav Hayashar”, ‘Straight Path’, in chapter 91, explains that during this month we should deal with removing ‘Chametz’, which is the aspect of negativity from our lives. This month was given to us (see verse above) to purify ourselves. We should give charity, tzedakah and make sure we gave the proper tithe to have continued sustenance in the following year. He quotes a section from Zohar (below) where we read that on Pesach we are judged on the crops of our fields, which is the aspect of the ‘fruitfulness’ of our actions. Giving Ma’aser and Tzedaka is very important during the first two weeks of Nisan. It’s the time to ‘catch-up’ with what we missed in giving ma’aser during the previous year. Most people do their taxes by that time and can find out if they gave less than 10% of their net income. The ma’aser should be divided among all channels of Light that support your spiritual growth. If they bring Light into your life then you should support them and avoid bread of shame or other negative aspects.
