Zohar Vayechi

Genesis 47:29
“And when the time drew near for Israel (Jacob) to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, put your hand under my thigh and promise to deal kindly and truly with me. Do not bury me in Egypt,”

In Zohar Vayechi (#245) Rabbi Chiyah asks why in the beginning of the portion it says “and Jacob lived” and here it says “Israel time to die”
The name Israel, that was given to Jacob later in his life, is on a higher level. It represents Zeir Anpin, the central column. Jacob came down to Egypt to bring the Light and connection to Zeir Anpin for his children. Now that he is about to leave the world, the Torah tells us that not just Jacob is passing away but also his spiritual essence, Israel.

Jacob asked Joseph to bury him with his parents, in the Cave of Machpela in Hebron. He knew the future and prepared himself for the returning of his children to the Holy Land.
Before he passed away, Jacob called Joseph inviting him to put his hand under his thigh. That was the aspect of transferring his energy to Joseph who is Yessod. Yessod can hold and channel Zeir Anpin to Malchut, nourishing the children of Israel.

The Zohar explains that because of Jacob, the Israelites couldn’t be controlled by other nations. We know that after Joseph died the israelites lost their spiritual connections and Pharaoh could enslave them.

Lesson:
We are still in exile and our main power is in the Land of Israel. There’s no power in the world that could control Israel except for the children of Israel. As long as there are people making strong spiritual connection in Israel, the land will stay strong and able to push away all enemies. Israelites around the world should focus on pure connection to the Light through Zohar and prayers.
Some teachers thinks that being a good sharing person is good enough to bring the Final Redemption. Unfortunately this is only 10% of what we need to do. On the Malchut level, which is our world, we need to be good and sharing people, treat each other with human dignity in order to have a vessel with ability to draw Light. The Light comes from the upper nine Sefirot so we have to connect higher to draw it. Without this Light we have no protection.

Moses and Elijah promised that by the merit of the Zohar we will go out of exile with mercy. If you are regular on the Daily Zohar then you are on the right path, now share your studies with others.
