Zohar Vaetchanan

Rabbi Yehudah says that a person who fears negative events on his path should plan for three things: gifts, prayer, and war. We learn that from Jacob when he prepared himself to meet Esau, who wished to kill him for taking the first born blessings from their father, Isaac.

Genesis 32:12
“Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, that he will come and attack me and the mothers with the children.”

Gifts – Avoid conflict by letting go of material energy. They are never worth life and the continuation of the correction process. Jacob knew that everything he has is gifts from above. He was ready to give many gifts to his brother and avoid war.
People will hold to their money but when it comes to saving their lives, they will give all that they have for a few moments of life. If life is so important then we need to give gifts all the time, showing the Light that we have the trust in his power to sustain us like he does for every creature in the universe.
King David …1 Chronicles 29:14
“ut who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and we have given You only what comes from Your own hand.”

Giving tithe removes the aspect of death from a person’s life leading to a life free of danger and conflicts.

Prayer – After letting go of connection to the material by giving gifts, a person can pray for what he needs. Jacob didn’t want to die in the hands of his brother who was negative. He mentioned Esau in by relation ‘brother’ and by his soul, ‘Esau’.

That is why we give Tzedakah during the prayer of the morning. Before elevating to the spiritual world of Briah (Creation) for unification with the Light, Before the afternoon prayer we give.

War – After we give from our material energy and connect spiritually we need to be ready to go to war against our enemies and give our lives for what we believe in. We must follow the Torah laws, otherwise it’s like falling into the negative side creating wars.
Sometimes our Tikkun process requires death. It’s hard to think about this but sometime we are ready to ruin our best suit or dress for a higher purpose, like saving lives or even less than that. Our body is just a garment for a soul that has a potential state of Immortality. This is the ultimate goal and purpose of all our lives with the many or few reincarnations.
It’s better to die for a cause that elevates our souls than lose our soul to preserve the temporary body.

The Zohar says that the most important among the three is the prayer and continues to say that even though prayers are very important, two or three people who study Torah is even more important because the Shechinah is with them while they study the Torah.
