Zohar Ki Tisa
Continued from previous DZ
When Elijah was under the palm of Deborah he fell asleep and was awaken by an angel that gave him food and sent him on a journey of 40 days and 40 nights until he arrived Mount Horeb, which is another name to Mount Sinai. The Torah tells us that the one meal given to Elijah by the angel was enough energy to sustain him for the 40 days and 40 nights long trip.
Elijah found a rest in a cave on the mountain. A message from God came to him asking to the purpose of his presence on the mountain.
1 Kings 19:9 “מַה-לְּךָ פֹה אֵלִיָּהוּ” “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Elijah replied;
1 Kings 19:10
“He said, “I have been very zealous for YHVH, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
Elijah was sent out of the cave to stand in front of YHVH. YHVH revealed himself through the elements of Wind, Earth and Fire and was asked the same question “What are you doing here, Elijah?” and he gave the same exact answer (1 Kings 19:!4). The first answer was before God’s revelation and second was after.
The Zohar reveals that Elijah the prophet is Pinchas, even though there were about 600 years between the time of Pinchas and Elijah.
Pinchas received the blessing of the covenant of peace “ברית שלום” and when he killed the prophets of idol worship, he broke the aspect of ‘peace’ from the blessing given to him through Moses and now it was taken away from him. That made him feel the aspect of death (1 Kings 19:4) and the desire to come back to the root of the blessing and renew it.
Moses said that he can’t receive the blessing of the “covenant of peace” but it will go to the newly born children of Israel. This way Elijah can share the blessing.
Elijah visits and participates in every circumcision. During the ceremony and before the Mohel (the one who does the circumcision) remove the foreskin, he points to the chair and say; “זֶה הַכִּסֵּא שֶׁל אֵלִיָּהוּ הַנָּבִיא מַלְאַךְ הַבְּרִית זָכוּר לַטּוֹב” “This is the chair of Elijah the prophet, the angel of the covenant of good memory”. The word ‘covenant’ is mentioned several times during the ceremony.
Elijah/Pinchas continues to support the covenant of peace through the children of Israel. He connects to the new life joining the covenant of Abraham and keep his immortal state. Elijah also the one that will announce the coming of Mashiach and the final peace.
