Zohar Ki Tisa
1 Kings 8:56
“Blessed be YHVH, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He promised through Moses His servant.”
The Zohar looks at this verse and explains that God follows and fulfil all the good that he promise. If the verse was without the word ‘good’ to state that God follows and fulfill all his words, including the good and the bad, then the world wouldn’t be able to endure the difficulties we would’ve experienced in such case. God with his infinite compassion and mercy doesn’t want to inflict pain on his people so he leaves the bad behind and slow to fulfil them.
The Zohar explains it like a father that raises his hand to slap his child for his wrong doing. The mother comes and hold his hand from coming down with its judgment. Both father and mother share the same plan to avoid judgments and help their child grow on the righteous path with love and mercy.
Exodus 32:7
“Then YHVH said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.”
Exodus 32:10
“Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”
These verses related to what we just learnt. When the people were busy making the Golden Calf, God told Moses to go down to see the spiritual corruption the people are engaging with. Moses didn’t jump to stop God from the judgment that was about to follow. God then continued in a form of asking Moses “Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them”. Moses ‘got it’ and acted immediately to stop God from going with this harsh judgment.
Exodus 32:11
“But Moses sought the favor of YHVH his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?”
Moses continued with his plea until God accepted;
Exodus 32:14
“Then YHVH relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.”
The examples above are big and far from our day to day actions but the principal works for every little wrong thing that we do. We cannot hide from the cause and effect system but we can ‘sweeten’ the judgment by making immediate correction and draw light of mercy by doing Tzedakah, Torah study (Zohar) and acts of kindness.
B”H I’ll expand on this important subject in future studies.
