Zohar Emor
In previous studies we learned about the importance of having a complete and pure vessel to receive and channel the Light from the upper levels. A priest with any kind of defect in their body cannot serve the holy.
Leviticus 21:17, 18
“”Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God.”
“For no one who has a defect shall approach: a blind man, or a lame man, or he who has a disfigured face, or any deformed limb,”
While the priest needs to have a complete body to be able to channel light for the world, people need to have pure vessel and also humility and lowliness
Isaiah 57:15
“For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.”
Just before the silent prayer (Amida) we prepare our consciousness for the elevation to the world of Emanation. We express our understanding that even though we rise for the connection, we are humble and know that God lower those with pride and elevate those who are low in spirit.
“He lowers the proud to the ground and raises the lowly on high.”
King David Psalms 51:19 says
“The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. God, You will not despise a broken and humbled heart. ”
When we come before God with our prayers, we should lower ourselves and pray from a broken heart so our prayers would be accepted and answered.
King Solomon in Proverbs 16:18 says
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
“Better to live humbly with the poor than to share plunder with the proud.”
People with pride get into crisis and destruction because their vessels disconnect from the Light. They feel self-importance and ‘independent’ with whatever make them proud. It’s better to be open for the Light with low spirit, which is the aspect of opening the vessel to receive more from the Light rather than enjoy the material world with proud people.
There are poor people with great pride, trying to hide their condition by showing nice front but inside they have nothing, not even light. There are rich people with humility that know that everything they have is from God, giving them opportunities to do a lot of good in this world.
Most rich people don’t feel lack of light because they think they are in control of their lives and wealth. They may feel blessed by God but don’t show appreciation and give back. Even if a rich person is a great sharing person, he should continue growing and ask God for greater ability to do even more than what he already does.
When a person, rich or poor, understands the temporary state of existence and that any day could be his end, he will focus on what’s really important in life in this world, which is building desires and work toward expanding a big and purer vessel to receive more light.
We increase vessel with actions and receive light with spiritual connection. According to the Holy Ari, even a precept of “you shall not do…” can come with a short meditation that express the aspect of restriction applied in not following negative actions. Positive precepts come with proper blessing and or ‘L’shem Yichud’.
To grow our vessels, we need to feel constant lack of light and keep doing positive actions (Study, precepts).
The more we do to disconnect our consciousness from the material things the greater our ability to draw light. Rabbi Shimon and his son, rabbi Elazar buried themselves in the ground without cloths when they were in the cave revealing the great revelations of the 70 Tikunei Zohar. That was the ultimate nullification of the self that allowed them to reveal such great light.
To channel great light the High Priest needed total nullification of the body and he was doing it using special drugs. For similar reason, Nadav and Avihu got drunk before offering the incense in the Holy Tabernacle.
Don’t do drugs, don’t get drunk, just humble yourself with study the Zohar, prayers and sharing actions to draw greater light into your life and the world around you.
