Zohar Naso
Continued from previous DZ
During Sukkot we sacrifice 70 bulls to ‘nourish’ the 70 nations of the world for the entire year and take them of the back of the Israelites.
Unfortunately, after the destruction of the Holy Temple, the process of sacrificing 70 bulls stopped. The Israelites scattered around the world in order to reveal light and ‘feed’ the nations they live in. Different countries with large Jewish population that have regular Shabbat and holiday services, benefit from balance and prosperity that is lacking when no Torah present in that country/community.
The 70 nations depend on the Israelites for their spiritual sustenance. When they lack of it, they hate us. When the priests in the Holy Temple didn;t do they services properly, the other nations felt the lack and the great empires at that time came, destroyed the Holy Temple and took the israelites with them to their countries.
This is the deeper meaning of the verse:
Proverbs 25:21
“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;”
If we don’t do Teshuva and reveal light to provide for the other nations, we go through hardship and sufferings from them. We always have the opportunity to repent and be forgiven.
2 Samuel 12:13
“Then David said to Nathan (the prophet), “I have sinned against YHVH” And Nathan said to David, “YHVH also has taken away your sin; you shall not die.”
Malachi 3:7
“From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says YHVH of hosts. “But you say, ‘How shall we return?’”
The Zohar tells us that when we ‘return’ and follow the Torah with Awe and Love, every precept we do has the aspect the ten Sefirot and include all the 248 precepts of action.
On the 9th of Av we read the book of Lamentation and we conclude the reading with the verse that expresses our desire to return and restore the days of the Holy Temple as before. We sing this verse also when we return the Torah back to the Ark after reading.
Lamentation 5:21
“Bring us back to you, O YHVH, so that we may return to you; renew our life as in days before, ”
Without the Torah, we suffer.
Here are few videos of the song of ‘return us to you’, “Hashivenu”.
