Zohar Ki Tetze
#66
Proverbs 1:9
“כִּי לִוְיַת חֵן הֵם לְרֹאשֶׁךָ וַעֲנָקִים לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶיךָ”
“Indeed, they are a graceful wreath (לִוְיַת) to your head And ornaments about your neck.”
The master of fish in the sea of Torah is called ‘whale’,’לִוְיַתן’. The Zohar gives this title to Moses, the Faithful Shepherd, that his life was dedicated to bring the Torah to the world.
Numbers 19:14
“ זֹאת, הַתּוֹרָה, אָדָם, כִּי-יָמוּת בְּאֹהֶל” “This is the Torah: when a man dies in a tent,”
The sages of the Talmud teach us;
אין התורה מתקיימת אלא במי שממית עצמו עליה
(ברכות סג)
“The Torah sustains only a person that kill himself on it” (Berachot 63:)
We learn that the light of the Torah can not be channeled through a person who with desires for the self alone. Our souls were created as vessels for the light in a body that have a desire for the self. This is our natural state and we need to transform the desires for the material to desire for the Light of the Torah that can immortalize us. Without the soul, the body ceases to exist. Without the Torah the soul dies with the body.
With the study of Torah we have the support to ‘kill’ the selfish desires and break the barriers between us and the Light that fulfils our vessels and the souls.
#67
The ‘Holy Candle’, who is Rabbi Shimon, came and Moses asked him; who is called a ‘whale’. Rabbi Shimon answered that the one who connects to the Central Column and righteous is a ‘whale’. His body is Torah and his mark of the covenant that is Yessod are one. The body is the aspect of following the Torah with actions/precepts. The ‘covenant’, Yessod, is the aspect of spiritual connection to the Central column that connects the soul to the Light. The righteous connect body and soul as one unit. He grows in the sea that is Binah, the supernal mother.
‘Sea’,’ים’ is numerically 50 and represents Binah. We create unification of Zeir Anpin and Binah with the 25 letters of ‘Shema Israel…’ and 25 letters of ‘Baruch Shem…’.
Moses says here that the ‘whale’ stands by the sea shore and the world stands on his fins because the ‘whale’ is a righteous and foundation (Yessod) of the world (Malchut). ‘צדיק יסוד עולם’.
Lesson: It’s important to study the symbols that the Zohar uses. The Torah itself, as we see from the verses that the Zohar quotes, conceals a lot of secrets. With such studies we join the Zohar that ‘opens’ the vessels of the Torah verses and reveals the concealed light.
