Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -260.

“But God led the people about, by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.’

The word ‘armed’ has the same spelling of the word “חֲמִשִּׁים” for the number 50.

The Zohar tells us that the Israelites were armed with the prayer of “Shema Israel

The 49 letters plus one for the whole (Kolel) makes 50. This makes a connection to the fifty gates of binah and opens them. An army of angels then come down to protect the prayer from all negativity.

The prayer of Shema is described as a sword that kills negativity. Our tongue is also described as a sword with power to save lives or take lives.

That protection helped the Israelites over come the Egyptians and drown them in the sea, ים, which has the numerical value of 50. The light and protection from Binah ‘swallowed’ the negativity of the Egyptians. The Midrash tells us that only Pharaoh was saved because he knew the code of the sword of Moses. He couldn’t return to his kingdom and he died as a poor man without any power.

(The sword code will be posted on a separate page on the DailyZohar.com).
