Zohar Vayeshev
#72
Genesis 37:2
“These are the records of the generations of Jacob. Joseph, when seventeen years of age, was pasturing the flock with his brothers while he was still a youth, along with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought back a bad report about them to their father.”
The sages tell us that Joseph was telling his father about his brothers that they were eating flesh of a living animal. The Zohar finds it hard to accept, explaining that they all knew that it is forbidden to eat live flesh, since after the Flood (Genesis 9:4 “But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.”).
The Zohar conclude that Joseph tell it from what he saw in his mind and because of that he was punished.

Rabbi Yehuda explains that the bad things that Joseph saw in his brothers was their interest in women of the land. These women were bad because they came to suck the energy from the holy side.

Genesis 37:3
“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a varicolored tunic.”
Jacob made him ‘a varicolored tunic’. This tunic was made of light that protected Joseph.
Rabbi Elazar quotes the following verse to show the love of God to us. God gives us a warning to protect ourselves until ‘the fury’ has passed.
Isaiah 26:20
“Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.”
Lesson;
Joseph on a spiritual level is considered to be the first born because when Jacob came to his wife on their first night he thought that it was Rachel but them he realized that it was Leah. For that reason, the first born to Rachel is the first son to Jacob.
Joseph believed that as a firstborn, he is responsible for his brothers and reported to his father everything he saw about them.
Joseph assumed his brothers eating live flesh because as said by Rabbi Yehuda, their eyes desired the women of the land. His assumption was correct because eating animal flesh that wasn’t properly slaughtered and cooked drive great desires for pleasures in this world. Highly spiritual people don’t eat meat. For many reasons, we cannot trust even meat bought with a kosher certificate.
B”H we are protected from the chaos that is developing in the world. Take shelter in the study of the Zohar that was given to us with love, ‘until the fury has passed by’.
