Zohar Kedoshim
#58
Rabbi Shimon tells Moses that because of him, we have the precept to appoint a king as it is written.
Deuteronomy 17:15
“שׂוֹם תָּשִׂים עָלֶיךָ מֶלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בּוֹ מִקֶּרֶב אַחֶיךָ תָּשִׂים עָלֶיךָ מֶלֶךְ לֹא תוּכַל לָתֵת עָלֶיךָ אִישׁ נָכְרִי אֲשֶׁר לֹא אָחִיךָ הוּא”
“you shall surely set a king over you whom YHVH your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman.”
The King is the leader and ruler over Israel, and the people follow his lead. Moses is like the king of Israel and gathered the people to follow him.
Deuteronomy 33:5
“וַיְהִי בִישֻׁרוּן מֶלֶךְ בְּהִתְאַסֵּף רָאשֵׁי עָם יַחַד שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל”
“And He was king in Jeshurun, When the heads of the people were gathered, The tribes of Israel together.”
Rabbi Shimon explains that the people follow Moses like body parts that follow the force of the soul that spreads to all parts of the body because Moses is ‘crowned’ with the Supernal Crown (Keter), which is the Light of the Endless that is over everything and spread to all the Sefirot in order. The greater light of Chessed at the top of the lower seven and govern the Right of Mercy and the Left of Judgment. Keter brings the Light down to all the sefirot, connect and activate them.

Moses leads the nation of Israel with all the positive attributes of Keter. He connects the Light to each one according to his vessel. He binds us with the Holy language to make unification with the Holy One Blessed be He.
Numbers 11:17
“וְיָרַדְתִּי וְדִבַּרְתִּי עִמְּךָ שָׁם וְאָצַלְתִּי מִן הָרוּחַ אֲשֶׁר עָלֶיךָ וְשַׂמְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶם וְנָשְׂאוּ אִתְּךָ בְּמַשָּׂא הָעָם וְלֹא תִשָּׂא אַתָּה לְבַדֶּךָ.”
“Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit who is upon you and will put Him upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with you so that you will not bear it all alone.”
Moses is at the top of the spiritual levels and channels the Light to all the children of Israel to complete the Tikun process of the nation. He couldn’t do it alone, and God connected our souls to his soul so we can do it together.
Rabbi Shimon asks Moses to rise with the gift he was given from God and lead the people to eradicate the seed of Amalek from the world.
Lesson;
Deuteronomy 17:15
“you shall surely set a king over you whom YHVH your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman.”
This verse teaches us an important principle. In most countries, we have a democratic process for electing our governments and officials. It’s an only illusion because the ‘kings’ we elect was already chosen to the position by God. We may ask; if God chooses the ‘king’ then why he asks us to place a king over us.
The answer is that God chose the king that would fit for our correction. The leader reflects our correction as a nation. He would challenge us to make corrections or to support and protect us.
To give a specific example to make this study clear would get me to involve in politics, which is better to avoid.
The bottom line is that if the nation desire the light then teh leader would be one that would lead toward teh light. If people are busy with their selfish and small world, they get leaders that would use them to advance their agenda, far from the people. Nations that lead without faith are mostly run by some kind of dictatorship and or chaos.
Rabbi Shimon asked Moses to lead the people to remove Amalek from the world because Amalek is the force that blocks the Light of the Final Redemption from coming down to the world. The spiritual position of Moses gives him the power to do that. When we study the Torah, we connect to the soul of Moses and provide him with the power to complete the correction for us.
