Zohar Balak

#146
Rahav pleaded to God saying that Abraham has two children, and Isaac has two sons that deserve the Torah. God replied that he is the firstborn of Abraham and he should receive it. Rahav started begging and ask God to take the light he inherited as a firstborn from him and give it to them. The Holy One Blessed be He did so. That was the aspect of “He shone forth from Mount Paran” (Deuteronomy 33:2).

#147
Deuteronomy 33:2
“He said, “YHVH came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He appeared from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.”

The Zohar asks about the difference between what it says about the light given to the Israelites from Sam-el (Esau), “and downed (shine)” and the light from Rahav (Ishmael) described as “appeared”. The Zohar explains that God took from Sam-el most of his light and left for him only enough to execute death with his sword in proper judgment.
Rahav didn’t have a lot of light from the blessing given to him by Isaac and God took only little of it, leaving him with light to be ‘fruitful and multiply’. The word ‘dawned’ related to the bright light that appears when the sun shines in the morning and the word ‘appeared’ is just a revelation.

Lesson;
Rahav is the minister of the sea and of Egypt. When the Israelites arrived at the sea and Moses wanted to step into the sea, Rahav stood against him and refuse to part the waters. Then God told Moses;
Exodus 14:16
“”As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.”
The names of God were on Moses’s Staff and Rahav had to obey the will of Moses.
Psalms 114:5
“What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?”
The first part of the verse is related to the crossing of the sea by the Israelites and the second part is related to the crossing of the Jordan river by the priests. The story is in Joshua 3:14-17. When the priests carrying the Holy Ark wanted to cross the Jordan river the water flow stopped at the moment the feet of the priests touched the water. Then they could cross on dry land.

The entire nature is controlled by ministers and angels that were created by YHVH and when God’s name appears before them, they must obey because he controls everything.
Rabbi Shimon and other great Tzadikim could make miracles and control nature because they were pure channels of Light. The name of God was unseparated part of them.
We cannot wave the name of God over water and expect them to split or stop flowing because we need to be pure enough to represent and channel the Light of Holy One Blessed be He. Nevertheless, the more we study and connect to YHVH, we can have protection from the negative aspects of Nature.
