The Holy One Blessed be He is the wise healer and knew that if he gives the Torah to Israel before letting the ministers of the other nations know first, they would go after the Israelites and kill them to get the Torah. So God invited them to connect to the Torah but they refused and gave gifts so Israel would take it.
Moses went up the mountain to receive the Torah. He also took all the gifts God collected from the ministers of the other nations. God’s ‘plan’ worked successfully, and the Israelites received the Torah without any aspect of judgment or objections from the other nations.
Psalms 68:19
“עָלִיתָ לַמָּרוֹם שָׁבִיתָ שֶּׁבִי לָקַחְתָּ מַתָּנוֹת בָּאָדָם וְאַף סוֹרְרִים לִשְׁכֹּן יָהּ אֱלֹהִים.”
“You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there.”
‘Your captives’ are the gifts of Light from the other nations that Moses received with the Torah.

Because of the Torah and the additional gifts, they received from the ministers of the other nations, the Israelites were not controlled by the other-side, not even death.
Because of the sin of the Golden Calf, they lost the gifts as it says in Exodus 33:6
“וַיִּתְנַצְּלוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת עֶדְיָם מֵהַר חוֹרֵב.”
“So the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments, from Mount Horeb onward.”
‘their ornaments’ are the gifts that the Israelites received on Mount Sinai with the Torah.

#152
After the Israelites continue with their transgressions they lost the war with the Canaanite that took from them some of their ‘gifts’. The gifts in the verse below are described with the word ‘captive’ that represents all that was ‘captured’ from the other-side. The same word is used in the verse above describing Moses going up the mountain and receiving his ‘captive’.
Numbers 21:1
“ וַיִּשְׁמַע הַכְּנַעֲנִי מֶלֶךְ-עֲרָד, יֹשֵׁב הַנֶּגֶב, כִּי בָּא יִשְׂרָאֵל, דֶּרֶךְ הָאֲתָרִים; וַיִּלָּחֶם, בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיִּשְׁבְּ מִמֶּנּוּ, שֶׁבִי”
“When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.”

The gifts are connected to the Torah and when the Israelites return to the Torah, the gifts come back to them. The verse below tells us that at the time of the Final Redemption God will restore all the treasures and Light that comes with the Torah.
Deuteronomy 30:3
“וְשָׁב יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֶת שְׁבוּתְךָ וְרִחֲמֶךָ וְשָׁב וְקִבֶּצְךָ מִכָּל הָעַמִּים אֲשֶׁר הֱפִיצְךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ שָׁמָּה.”
“then YHVH your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where YHVH your God has scattered you.”

Lesson;
The Torah is a gift of Life given to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. It had the power to overcome the Sam-el, who controls death and execute judgments. The other gifts that came attached to the Torah included full control over nature. Many great Tzadikim became Holy and achieved the level of mind over matter because of their complete and pure connection to the Torah. The word שבי , ‘Captive’ that represents the gifts of light that came with the Torah is initials for the names of great Tzadikim, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, Yitzchak ben Luria (The Holy Ari), Rabbi Shalom ben Yitzchak (The Rashash), The Baal Shem Tov (Israel ben Sarah), Also Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki)

The Torah gives us ‘gifts’ according to the efforts we put to connect to it. If we keep a steady connection we get more gifts and if we disconnect from it, then we lose some or all of the gifts.
Like a person that decides to follow a healthy diet. He loses weight and feels better and healthier. If he keeps the discipline, he will feel even better in time but if he loses the hold on his diet, he falls and need efforts to come back to the healthy path.
The ‘wise healer’ gave us a system with a lot of gifts. The Daily Zohar helps me stay on the path of continuous light and I hope that the daily studies help you the same.
