Tikkun 37 – 1

בְּרֵאשִׁית, “In the Beginning” is the aspect of בְּרִי”ת, “covenant” and it also means “circumcision”.
It is the aspect of revealing and connecting to the light and it is dressed with three klipot, which are shells of negativity that block the light.
They are represented by the words “תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ וְחֹשֶׁךְ”, “Unformed”, “Void” and “Darkness” from Genesis 1:2.

The circumcision is the first tikkun of the soul in the physical world. The process of cutting out the foreskin includes three steps to remove the three Klipot that are attached to the child at birth. The cause was the first sin of Eve and Adam that brought mortality on themselves and had to go through the process of earning the light and continuation of life by having children.

The Zohar reveals to us that the klipot that block the light were there before God revealed them as the first action to create the world.

Labor is a hard process and at its end a new life comes out. The delivery process begins with the new baby, which is the aspect of new life, turning its head toward the gate. Next, the gate is reaped open. The last step is bleeding and delivering.

The same process happens in the circumcision. First step is to expose the head of the penis, second is to reap the foreskin open with the fingers, then cut it out and draw out blood by sucking.

The world was created with the klipot and negativity in place. God is our father and did the first step to break us out of the klipot and bring us to this life. It is the process of correction that exists on all levels. We have circles of negativity around us that we need to break in order to see the true light. It’s on a personal and global level.
