Song of Songs 3:6
“Who is this that comes up out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant”

When the right and left columns come together the central column is opened. The Zohar explains that the verse above reveals the connection of Binah and Malchut at that time.

Who”, with numerical value of 50 is reference to Binah.
זֹאת, “that”, with numerical value 408 is Malchut as we explained in previous articles.

“ כְּתִימְרוֹת עָשָׁן”, “like pillars of smoke”, compares the connection of Malchut and Binah to the pillar of the incense smoke that was used at the time of the Holy Temple.

The Zohar explains that incense, קטורת that means “a knot”, creates and represents the connection of upper and lower.

Exodus 30:37
“And the incense which you shall make, according to the composition thereof you shall not make for yourselves; it shall be Holy for you, for YHVH

The incense had 11 specific ingredients that made it special. The high priest prepared it every morning, at the frame of Chessed to connect to Binah and again in late afternoon, in the frame of Gevurah to remove negativity. The burnt incense created a pillar of smoke that went straight up to heavens. It was one of the visible miracles in the Holy Temple because it was not affected by wind or rain. It was like on Mount Sinai, when the people ‘saw’ the voices of God coming out of the mountain.

When there is a ‘bridge’ that connects Malchut to the upper levels it can be seen but can not be affected or changed by other elements in Malchut.

The incense in the Holy Temple removed negativity from the environment. In Numbers 17:12,13 we read how Aaron stopped a plague using the Holy Incense from the Tabernacle.

The sages took the Torah story of the incense and made it a special prayer to be recited in the morning and in the afternoon. It was made to connect us to the work of the priests in the Holy Temple and draw from that energy.

Rabbi Shimon said in the Zohar that if people would understand the value of this prayer, they would put it as golden crown over their heads.
