He wrote a commentary for the Tanya Book.</p> <p>He lived in Poland during the latter part of the eighteenth century and the early part of the nineteenth.</p> <h3>Student of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi</h3> <p>He was one of the most enthusiastic and steadfast disciples of the kabbalist Shneur Zalman of Liadi, rabbi of Liozna and Liadi, and studied under him until he had acquired a full knowledge of his mystic lore. He urged Rabbi Shneur Zalman to publish his work, Tanya (Slavita, 1796); and when the latter was imprisoned by a royal decree in 1798, Aaron traveled from town to town to collect money from his master's followers, to ransom him, or at least to bribe the jailer and the prison warders to allow them to see Rabbi Shneur Zalman. After the latter's death in 1812, Aaron took up his residence as rabbi at Staroselye, and many flocked to him to have the Law explained in accordance with the teachings of his master. These formed a school known as the Hasidim of Staroselye.</p> <h3>Works</h3> <p>Aaron was the author of Sha'are Abodah (Hebrew: שערי עבודה‎, The Gates of Worship), Shklov, 1820–21, a work which is also known by the name Avodat HaBenonim (Hebrew: עבודת הבינונים‎, The Worship of the Average men). It is divided into five sections: the first on the unity of God; the second on the union of souls; the third on divine service; the fourth on the Law and the Commandments; and the fifth on repentance. He also wrote Avodat HaLevi (Hebrew: עבודת הלוי‎), Lemberg, 1861, a commentary on the Pentateuch. All of Aaron's teachings are based on the oral traditions of Rabbi Shneur Zalman and on his work, Tanya.</p> <h3>Family</h3> <p>Rabbi Aaron was a descendant of Rabbi Isaiah Horowitz (Shaloh HaKadosh). Rabbi Aaron's son, Haim Raphael HaLevi ben Aaron of Staroselye, was the second rebbe of Strashelye.</p> <p>may the merit of the tzadik Rabbi Aaron HaLevi ben Moses (Hurwitz) of Staroselye protect us all.       • text<p style="text-align: right;"> רבי אהרן הלוי הורביץ מסְטַרשֶלֶה  (תקכ"ו, 1766 - כ"ב בתשרי תקפ"ט, 1828) היה תלמידו של רבי שניאור זלמן מלאדי, ואחד מממלאי מקומו. כתב פירוש לספר התניא.</p> <h3 style="text-align: right;">ביוגרפיה</h3> <p style="text-align: right;">נולד לר' משה הלוי הורביץ, באסבה, שבמחוז ויטבסק. משפחתו מיוחסת לרב ישעיהו הלוי הורביץ (השל"ה). היה מבני ביתו ומתלמידיו המובהקים של רבי שניאור זלמן מלאדי, ושימש כמדריך לאברכים. כשנאסר רבו פעל לשחררו ואסף סכום של 60 אלף רובל תמורת שחרורו. היה חוזר חסידות יחד עם באורים משלו, דבר שלא מצא חן בעיני הרב יהודה לייב מיאנוביץ' (אחיו של רבי שניאור זלמן ומחבר הספר "שארית יהודה") שהרבה לדייק בלשונו של אחיו וגרם לחיכוכים ביניהם, בשלב מסוים הורה לו רבו לעזוב את ליאדי ולא הרשה לו לחזור במשך כשלוש שנים, בתקופה זו התגורר בעיירה אורשה. חלק על שיטתו של רבי דובער שניאורי, בנו של רבי שניאור זלמן מלאדי, בהבנת "ספר התניא". בעקבות כך לאחר פטירתו של רבי שניאור זלמן מלאדי הקים חצר משלו. ניגוניו מופיעים כחלק מניגוני חב"ד. בעת כהונתו כאדמו"ר כתב ביאורים בתורת החסידות, המתאפיינים בסגנון פשוט ובהיר, על אף עיסוקם בעיקר בנושאים מופשטים: אמונה באחדות ה', אהבת ויראת ה'. ב-1825 נאסר עקב הלשנה עם רבי דובער שניאורי. נפטר בתקפ"ט (1828) בסטרשלה.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">לאחר פטירתו, מילא את מקומו בנו רבי חיים רפאל. לאחר פטירת בנו, חלק מחסידיו חזרו לחב"ד-לובביץ', חלקם פנו לרבי ישראל דב בער מווילעדניק, קבוצה גדולה העמיקה בכתביו ללא רבי ומורה דרך והשאר התפזרו בחסידויות האזור.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">משנתו</p> <p style="text-align: right;">רבי אהרן סבר שדברי התורה שמשמיע הרבי הבא אינם חייבים להיות צמודים וכפופים לדבריו של האדמו"ר הזקן אלא רק מיוסדים עליהם בהוספת ביאורים וחידושים שחורגים מהכללים ומהנושאים שנדונו במשנתו של הרבי הקודם, לעומתו רבי דובער סבר כי דרושי החסידות מוכרחים להישמר בתוך המסגרת שנקבעה בתורת חב"ד על ידי הרבי הראשון.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">כן סבר רבי אהרון שהמרכז בחייו של האדם אינו האדמו"ר אלא התורה אותה הוא מעביר לתלמידיו לכן אין צורך לדבוק באורחות חייו של הרב אלא מספיק ללמוד את תורתו, לעומתו רבי דובער שהחשיב את הרבי למרכז בחיי החסיד ואת החובה להתקשר אליו ולדבוק בדרכיו ואת תורתו של הצדיק ראה כ"גילוי" של הצדיק.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">נושא נוסף בו חלקו הוא נושא ההתפעלות, לדעת רבי אהרן התפעלות מעניין אלוהי צריכה להתבטא כלפי חוץ בתפילה בקול ותנועות רבות. לעומתו, רבי דובער בקונטרס ההתפעלות סבר כי ההתפעלות צריכה להיות "התפעלות אלוקית" כלומר: שההתפעלות תהיה רק בנפש פנימה ואינה צריכה להראות כלפי חוץ והתפילה צריכה להיות בשקט וללא תנועות, את דעתו של רבי אהרן כינה "התפעלות חיי בשר" כלומר שההתפעלות היא חיצונית בלבד ואינה פועלת מאומה באדם עצמו.</p> <h3 style="text-align: right;">ספריו</h3> <p style="text-align: right;">שערי היחוד והאמונה, ביאור על החלק של "שער היחוד והאמונה" בספר התניא, שקלוב ה'תק"פ 1820.<br /> ספר שערי עבודה, הנקרא בשם עבודת הבינונים (חלק ב משערי היחוד והאמונה) שקלוב, תקפ"א.<br /> הגדה של פסח עם פירוש סוד קדושים, מאת בעל התניא ור' אהרן, קניגסברג (ייתכן שנדפס בוורשה), ה'תרכ"ו.<br /> ספר עבודת הלוי, לבוב, ה'תר"ב-ה'תרכ"ו.<br /> ספריו לא נדפסו מעבר למהדורותיהם הראשונות או בסמוך לכך, והיו לנדירים, אולם מאז שנות השבעים, הם נדפסו במהדורות רבות, ובהפצה נרחבת, על ידי אברהם משה קרויס, חסיד תולדות אהרן. בנוסף, ברשות ספריית חב"ד שבניו-יורק מצויים כתבי יד רבים מתורותיו, מאמריו ומכתביו שלא ראו אור.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">היחס בין תורתו לבין תורת רבו, בעל התניא, ושל בנו, הרב דובער, העסיק חוקרים והוגים רבים, מתוך ומחוץ לחסידות</p> <p style="text-align: right;">זכותו תגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל, אמן</p>
