His piyyutim (poems) were spread through the Sephardic world. He travelled to various communities in Morocco and also to Gibraltar, where his poems were well received. He is the author of Tehila le David (Song of David), a collection of liturgic poems and elegies which have inspired many Moroccan singers, and of Mekoman chel zebahim ("Place of Sacrifices"), a versification of the slaughter rituals practiced in the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. Some of his poems include his name in acrostic. Moses Edrehi (1855) records that he saw a manuscript of Song of David that was sent from Meknes to the leaders of the Moroccan Jewish community in London for publication. He was also the author of several Bible commentaries May the merit of Rabbi David Ben Hassin protect us all. Amen

 textרבי דוד בן אהרון בן חסין (1727 - 30 ביוני 1792) היה מגדולי המשוררים והפייטנים של יהודי מרוקו. חלק משיריו דוגמת "אערוך מהלל ניבי", "לדוד שיר ומזמור" ו"אוחיל יום יום אשתאה", התפרסמו הרחק ברחבי קהילות המגרב והמזרח התיכון. <h3 style="text-align:right">קורות חייו</h3> דוד בן חסין נולד במלאח (הרובע היהודי) של מקנס בשנת 1727. קיבל חינוך מסורתי בצלא, ובגיל 10 החל ללמוד בישיבה של ר' מרדכי ברדוגו והיה לתלמיד מצטיין. בגיל 17 חיבר את חיבורו הראשון מגדל לדוד שעוסק בפרשנות המקרא ודן בדרכים הנכונות ללמוד ולשנן את התורה. בגיל 20 נישא לבתו של מורו ר' מרדכי ברדוגו. רבי דוד חסין היה משורר פורה והותיר אחריו למעלה מ-250 שירים, אשר חלקם הגדול התפרסם 15 שנה לאחר מותו בספר בשם "תהילה לדוד" שיצא לאור באמשטרדם בשנת תקס"ו וזכה מאז לשלוש מהדורות נוספות. כמו תלמידי חכמים רבים אחרים במרוקו ר' דוד חסין עסק לפרנסתו כסופר סת"ם. הוא נהג לנסוע ולבקר את הקהילות היהודיות השונות ברחבי מרוקו, וכך עוד בחייו שיריו התקבלו למסורות הפיוט ברחבי האזור. לעומת שירת ספרד אשר נכתבה בעיקר בלשון המקרא ר' דוד חסין עשה בשירתו שימוש בכל רובדי הלשון העברית ובעיקר לשון המקרא ולשון חז"ל. שירתו הושפעה גם מן הקבלה והדבר ניכר הן מבחינת הנושאים והתכנים, והן מבחינת העיצוב והדימויים. רבי דוד חסין חי בתקופה רווית סבל עבור היהודים במרוקו. במהלך חייו סבל המלאח של מקנס מפגעי טבע כגון בצורת קשה וממושכת שהקשו על חיי תושביו. בנוסף יושבי המלאח נפגעו מאלימות אנטי-יהודית ומרדיפות שונות. בערוב ימיו של ר' דוד חסין עלה לשלטון מולאי יזיד, שרדף באכזריות את היהודים ברחבי מרוקו. ר' דוד חסין הקדיש שירים לתיאור הרדיפות שחוו יהודי מרוקו, ורבים משיריו הם שירי נחמה המנסים לעודד את רוחן של הקהילות המוכות. נושאי שירתו מתמקדים לפיכך בנושאי הגלות ומצוקותיה והתקווה לגאולה וחידוש העבר של עם ישראל. שירתו נפוצה מעבר למרוקו וצפון אפריקה והגיעה לקובצי פיוטים במזרח, עד תימן הרחוקה. זכותו תגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל, אמן
