 textמתוך הספר " חוכמה מקדם " חזי כהן הרב ישועה בסיס <img alt="Asilah" src="https://i1.wp.com/moreshet-morocco.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Asilah.jpg?resize=228%2C300" style="height:300px; width:228px" /> מגדולי חכמי תוניסיה(1860-1773), כיהן כראש אב בית הדין וכרבה הראשי של העיר תוניס. העמיד תלמידים הרבה, שהנהיגו את יהדות תוניסיה בדור שלאחריו. נודע בפיקחותו הרבה ונתפרסם כפועל ישועות. זכה להערכה רבה גם בקרב חכמי אשכנז. כיבוד הורים כשהיה צעיר לימים חזר רבי ישועה מבית הכנסת אחרי תפילת ערבית של שבת, וראה מבעד לחלון שאמו ישנה. כדי לא להפריע את מנוחתה נשאר מחוץ לבית, אף על פי שירד גשם שוטף. כשראוהו השכנים שאלוהו מדוע אינו נכנס לביתו, והשיב להם שהוא ממתין שאמו תתעורר. חסו עליו השכנים והעירו אותה. כעס עליהם הרב בסים ואמר, ״מוטב שהייתם מניחים לה להתעורר בעצמה והייתי זוכה לקיים מצוות כיבוד אב ואם כהלכתה.״ משיב כהוגן ר׳ אפרים חיות, מרבני הונגריה, כתב בספרו ״אשל אברהם״ בנוגע לסוגיה מורכבת בפרשת שמות בדבר פירושו של הרשב״ם לשם ה׳ המפורש: ״ותמהתי על המראה הזאת [הסוגיה] כמה שנים, ואין מגיד לי מכל גדולי הדור באשכנז, בפולניה ובאיטליה, עד שבאתי פה תוניס רבתי יע״א ואמרתי לידידי כנפשי, הרב המאור הגדול, מוהר״ר יהושע בסיס ואמר לי מיד תוך כדי דיבור.״ מתי תבוא הישועה? יום אחד שמע חכם ישועה בסים כרוז עובר וקורא צו מטעם המלך: ״השליט ירום הודו מצווה לשחרר את כל העבדים והשפחות! שוק העבדים ייסגר!״ לשמע הדברים החל לבכות. כל היהודים הופתעו שהרי לרב לא היו עבדים ושפחות ואף ידוע שהסתייג מתופעה זו. ניגשו אליו ושאלוהו לפשר בכיו. השיב הרב ישועה, ״כששמעתי את הכרוז חשבתי בלבי, ברוך ה׳ שפקד אותם והוציאם לחרות. אך כיצד אפשר שבני חם שנתקללו מימות אביהם בקללת העבדות, 'עֶבֶד עֲבָדִים יִהְיֶה לְאֶחָיו׳(בראשית ט׳ כה), כבר הגיעה שעת גאולתם, ואילו אנו, בני אברהם יצחק ויעקב, עדיין בגלות?!״ חוכמת הדקדוק רבי שאול הכהן מג׳רבה, בעל הספר ״לחם ביכורים״, היה מומחה בחוכמת הדקדוק. רבי ישועה בסים נהג לכנות אותו בכינוי ״שאול בחיר ה׳״. כשביקר אותו עמד הרב ישועה בסיס לכבודו. טען כנגדו הרב שאול הכהן, ״כיצד רב גדול כמוך קם לכבודי?״ השיב לו הרב ישועה, ״אני עומד בפניך הואיל ואתה חכם ממני בחוכמת הדקדוק. שווה חוכמת הדקדוק מכל חוכמה שבעולם.״ כיבוד פרחי לימוד אישה אחת שלחה את בנה הקטן לשאול את הרב בסיס לגבי כשרות עוף. הילד, כבן עשר, מצא את הרב שוכב ומעיין בספר. הבן שאל והרב ענה מה שענה. לאחר מכן שאלו הרב ישועה, ״מה לומד בני?״ והילד השיב שהוא לומד בישיבה מסכת ביצה. מיד התרומם רבי ישועה ממקומו ועשה לו הידור, קד קידה קלה, לכבוד התורה. לימים גדל הילד והיה לרב גדול, רבי יעקב אבוקרה, וגם בבגרותו לא שכח את האירוע שהותיר עליו רושם עז. ״בכל פעם שחשתי קושי בלימוד,״ הוסיף הרב אבוקרה, ״נזכרתי ברבי ישועה ומיד התגברתי וחזרתי ללימוד.״ כוחה של תמימות רבי ישועה בסים השתתף בסליחות ושם לבו לאדם הנראה עני מרוד, האוחז בסידור וצועק בכוונה עצומה, ״עננו… עננו!״ ביקש הרב ישועה להבין את לבו, ושאל אותו, ״למה אתה מתכוון כשאתה מתפלל?״ השיב היהודי בתמימות גמורה, ״רבי, כל שנה אנו מתפללים שאף אחד מישראל לא יהיה עני – יעננו׳ פירושו, עני־נו״ [נו בצרפתית: לא]. התפעל הרב ישועה מדבריו ואמר לתלמידיו, ״אדם זה, באמונתו התמימה, משפיע שפע ברכה על העולם.״ היכן ניכרת יראת שמים? תלמידו של הרב בסיס, רבי אברהם הכהן יצחקי(בעל ״משמרות כהונה״), היה נוהג לצאת מדי פעם מבית המדרש כדי לעשן. ניגש אליו רבי ישועה ואמר לו, ״מי שלא יכול להתאפק ולהתגבר על יצר העישון – אין לו יראת שמים.״ זכותו תגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל, אמן
