  short_info<p>Rabbi Shalom Shachna (c. 1510 – 1558) was a rabbi and Talmudist, and Rosh yeshiva of several great Acharonim including Moses Isserles, who was also his son-in-law.</p>
  info<h3>Biography</h3> <p>Rabbi Shalom Shachna was a pupil of Jacob Pollak, founder of the method of Talmudic study known as Pilpul. In 1515 Shachna established the yeshiva in Lublin, which had the third largest Jewish community in Poland in that period. Shachna became famous as a teacher, and students came to Lublin from all over Europe to study there. The yeshiva became a center of learning of both Talmud and Kabbalah; the Rosh yeshiva received the title of rector and equal rights to those in Polish universities with the permission of the King in 1567. (This, as well as the great scholarship of those who studied there, have led some to refer to Lublin as "the Jewish Oxford".) Shachna was succeeded as head of Lublin Yeshiva by Solomon Luria (the Maharshal).</p> <h3>Works</h3> <p>Only one of Shachna's writings, the treatise Pesachim be-Inyan Kiddushin has been published - Shachna was known for his modesty, and enjoined his son Israel from printing any of his manuscripts.</p> <p>May the merit of the tzadik Rabbi Shalom Shachna protect us all.   text<h3 style="text-align: right;">ביוגרפיה</h3> <p style="text-align: right;">נולד לגולדה (נפטרה ב-1532) וליוסף, מוכס במקצועו, שקיבל היתר מזיגמונד הראשון מלך פולין, לגור בין חומות העיר לובלין ולנהל בה את עסקיו.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">בערך בשנת 1520 התמנה רבי שלום שכנא לרבה של לובלין וגלילותיה, ועמד בראש ישיבה שמנתה תלמידים רבים. שמו התפרסם על ידי תלמידיו במזרח אירופה, והיו שכינו אותו "מאור הגולה". רבי שלום שכנא לא השאיר אחריו חיבורים, הוא נימק זאת בין השאר בכך ש"אין רצוני שיסמכו העולם על הוראותי". על עותק התלמוד הבבלי שלו כתב הגהות, וכשהדפיסו בלובלין מהדורה חדשה של הש"ס, הדפיסו על פי הגהותיו.[דרוש מקור] בנו רבי ישראל כיהן אחריו בראשות הישיבה בלובלין.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">על פי צו מלכותי שחייב את הקהילות באישור הממשל לכל מינוי של רב ורושם נישואין, הוא מונה בשנת 1542 כאחד משני "רב כולל וזקן היהודים" ליהודי פולין,ונשאר בתפקיד הרב הראשי ללובלין גם כאשר בוטל הצו, עד שהחליפו בתפקיד הרב יהודה בן אהרן.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">נפטר בא' בכסלו שנת ה'שי"ט. מצבת קברו ניצבת בבית הקברות היהודי בלובלין, והיא אחת היחידות שהשתמרו מתקופה זו.</p> <p style="text-align: right;">זכותו תגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל, אמן</p>

Образование получил в Праге, после чего вернулся в Люблин, где до самой смерти служил раввином в местной еврейской общине. В исследовании Талмуда Шалом Шахна был последователем Яакова Поллака.</p> <p>В 1515 году Шалом Шахна основал в Люблине иешиву, в которой занимался преподавательской деятельностью. Люблинская иешива в 1567 году была признана высшим учебным заведением. Самым известным его учеником был Мойша Иссерлес, будущий раввин и талмудист в краковском Казимеже.</p> <p>Шалом Шахна умер в 1558 году и был похоронен на старом кладбище в Люблине. Надгробие могилы Шалома Шахны сохранилось до нашего времени и находится на старом кладбище.</p> <h3>После смерти Шалома Шахны руководителем люблинской иешивы стал Соломон Лурия.</h3> <p>Пусть заслуга цадика Шалом Шахна защитит нас всех.
