Zohar Beresheet

#255
And because of this, Rabbi Akiva said: The meaning is — Do not compare the “Pure Marble Stones” (אבני שיש טהור) to other stones — those other stones are from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (עץ הדעת טוב ורע), which represent both life and death, from where it is said: “לֵב חָכָם לִימִינוֹ וְלֵב כְּסִיל לִשְׂמֹאלוֹ” “The heart of the wise is to his right, and the heart of the fool is to his left” (Ecclesiastes 10:2). And not only that — you may even endanger yourselves, because those stones of the Tree of Knowledge are in a state of separation, while the Pure Marble Stones are in complete unity, with no separation at all. And if you will say: But the Tree of Life departed from them at the sin of the Golden Calf, and they broke and fell — does this not imply separation? To this he replies: “לֹא יֵשֵׁב בְּקֶרֶב בֵּיתִי עֹשֵׂה רְמִיָּה דֹּבֵר שְׁקָרִים לֹא יִכּוֹן לְנֶגֶד עֵינָי.” “A speaker of lies shall not stand before My eyes” (Psalms 101:7). For Above (in the higher worlds), there is no separation — those that broke were originally from these Pure Marble Stones. And therefore, they are considered as though they never broke, unlike the stones of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Notes:
Rabbi Akiva warns his students not to confuse two spiritual concepts: The Pure Marble Stones (אבני שיש טהור) — These represent the original Tablets, sourced in unity from the Tree of Life. They are perfect, pure, and unified, representing the unblemished Torah of eternal life. Other Stones — representing the Tree of Knowledge (עץ הדעת טוב ורע) — These symbolize Torah approached from the side of duality — good and evil, reward and punishment, permitted and forbidden. This level of Torah belongs to a reality of separation and the presence of death (as in the second Tablets after the Golden Calf). The Zohar explains that even though the first Tablets were broken, their root and essence in the higher world remain whole and unseparated; in this sense, they are considered as though they had never broken. This concept teaches that in the spiritual source, unity remains intact regardless of what occurs in the lower worlds. Only when the lower reality interacts with impurity and sin do breaks or separations manifest, but these do not affect the eternal spiritual reality.
The phrase “A speaker of lies shall not stand before My eyes” is quoted here to emphasize that suggesting such separation at the root level is a lie in spiritual terms.
