Zohar Vayishlach

#176
Come and see: Every beginning is hard, and afterward comes relief.
On Rosh HaShanah, the beginning is hard: the whole world is judged, each person according to his deeds. Afterward comes relief: forgiveness and atonement, namely Yom Kippur and Sukkot.
This is because the beginning is in the aspect of the left (Gevurah); therefore, its judgments are severe. Afterward, the right (Chessed) is aroused, as it is written: “שְׂמֹאלוֹ תַּחַת לְרֹאשִׁי”, “His left hand is under my head” (Song of Songs 2:6), and afterward “וִימִינוֹ תְּחַבְּקֵנִי”, “and His right hand embraces me” (Song of Songs 2:6 / 8:3). Thus, relief is brought about.
Notes:
The Zohar teaches the universal pattern of “hard beginning → relief.”Rosh HaShanah (left side, judgment) is harsh; Yom Kippur and Sukkot (right side, mercy) bring relief. The same dynamic appeared in Rachel’s death and Saul’s death: severe judgment at the start, followed by lasting rectification and joy.

#177
With the nations of the world, it will be the opposite.
In the future, the Holy One, blessed be He, will first arise in tranquility (mercy) toward the other idol-worshipping nations, and afterward He will overpower them with harsh judgment.
This is what is written: “יְהוָה כַּגִּבּוֹר יֵצֵא כְּאִישׁ מִלְחָמוֹת”, “YHVH goes forth like a mighty man, like a man of war” (Isaiah 42:13).
First “יְהוָה”, which is mercy, then “כַּגִּבּוֹר ”, “like a mighty man” (not a full mighty man), then “כְּאִישׁ מִלְחָמוֹת”, “like a man of war” (not a full man of war). Only afterward does the full Gevurah reveal itself upon them and overpower them to destroy them, as it is written: “יָרִיעַ אַף יָצְרִיחַ עַל אוֹיְבָיו יִתְגַּבָּר”, “He will shout, yea, He will roar; He will prevail against His enemies” (Isaiah 42:13). And it is written: “וְיָצָא יְהוָה וְנִלְחַם”, “And YHVH will go forth and fight” (Zechariah 14:3). And it is written: “מִי זֶה בָּא מֵאֱדוֹם”, “Who is this who comes from Edom?” (Isaiah 63:1).
Notes:
For the nations, the future redemption begins with apparent tranquillity (YHVH, mercy), then gradually intensifies until full judgment (Gevurah) destroys them. The verse’s “like a mighty man / like a man of war” shows the judgment is at first restrained, then fully unleashed.
