167. שֶׁשָּׁנִינוּ, עַל שְׁנֵי דְבָרִים צַדִּיקִים מִסְתַּלְּקִים מִן הָעוֹלָם טֶרֶם הִגִּיעַ זְמַנָּם, אֶחָד עַל חֲטָאֵי הַדּוֹר, שֶׁכְּשֶׁמִּתְרַבִּים רְשָׁעִים בָּעוֹלָם, אוֹתָם צַדִּיקִים שֶׁנִּמְצָאִים בֵּינֵיהֶם נִתְפָּסִים בַּחֲטָאֵיהֶם. וְאֶחָד כְּשֶׁמִּתְגַּלֶּה לִפְנֵי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שֶׁיִּסְרְחוּ אַחַר כָּךְ, הוּא מְסַלֵּק אוֹתָם מֵהָעוֹלָם טֶרֶם הִגִּיעַ זְמַנָּם. זֶהו שֶׁכָּתוּב אֲשֶׁר יֵשׁ צַדִּיקִים אֲשֶׁר מַגִּיעַ אֲלֵהֶם כְּמַעֲשֵׂה הָרְשָׁעִים. מַגִּיעַ עֲלֵיהֶם דִּין שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה כְּאִלּוּ עָשׂוּ חֲטָאִים וּמַעֲשִׂים שֶׁל רְשָׁעִים.

And here there is a secret of wisdom. That is, in the verse “יֵשׁ הֶבֶל”, “there is a vanity” (Ecclesiastes 8:14), which is the aspect of Yessod among the vanities that emerges from those upper vanities mentioned above, upon which the world, which is the Nukva, stands. And this is what is written: “אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשָׂה עַל הָאָרֶץ”, “that is done on the earth” (Ecclesiastes 8:14), that is, on the Nukva called earth. And “נַעֲשָׂה”, “is done” means that Yessod is established in its existence and strengthened in its power through the workers of the earth, who are the righteous, and through their raising of מ” ן (feminine water, vessels) that ascends from the earth. And this Yessod is appointed to bestow upon the earth, and all its strength and existence is in the souls of the righteous gathered from the earth, that is, who died while they were righteous before they sinned, while they still gave pleasing fragrance. Such as Enoch, about whom it is written: “וְאֵינֶנּוּ כִּי לָקַח אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִים”, “and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24), that He took him before his time to die, and delighted in him. And similarly, the other righteous of the world.
Notes:
Yessod (הֶבֶל…עַל הָאָרֶץ) sustains the Nukva through righteous souls taken early (לָקַח אֹתוֹ), like Enoch, before sin.

We have learned that the righteous depart from the world before their time for two reasons. One, because of the sins of the generation. For when the wicked multiply in the world, the righteous found among them are seized for their sins. And one, when it is revealed before the Holy One, blessed be He, that they will sin afterward, He removes them from the world before their time arrives.
This is what is written: “אֲשֶׁר יֵשׁ צַדִּיקִים אֲשֶׁר מַגִּיעַ אֲלֵיהֶם כְּמַעֲשֵׂה הָרְשָׁעִים”, “that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked” (Ecclesiastes 8:14). That judgment comes upon them from above as if they committed transgressions and the deeds of the wicked.
Notes:
Righteous souls depart early either for the generation’s sins (seized among the wicked) or to avoid future sin. This reflects divine mercy, protecting the Tzaddik’s purity and sustaining the world’s balance.
