#188
This secret is to remove the foreskin from before the holy covenant, and to enjoy this fragrance that spreads from the fire’s embers. That is, the primary purpose of the commandment is to enjoy the fragrance that is in it. And therefore it is eaten only when one is satiated, when he no longer needs to eat.
And therefore every uncircumcised person shall not eat of it; whoever has the holy covenant (circumcized) may eat of it. For he who is of the covenant breaks the strength of the power of the Sitra Achra and removes the foreskin from before the covenant. For this reason, it must be done by those of the covenant, and not by the uncircumcised.
Notes:
This Zohar explains the deeper secret of eating the Passover sacrifice. Removing the foreskin from the holy covenant symbolizes breaking the Sitra Achra’s power. The enjoyment of the sacrifice’s fragrance occurs only when satiated, emphasizing spiritual satisfaction over physical need. Only those of the covenant (circumcised) may eat it, as they weaken impurity and uphold the covenant’s sanctity.
#189
When the Holy One, blessed be He, came to Egypt, He saw the blood of the Passover that was marked on the door, and the blood of the covenant — how they were standing on the door, as it is written: “וּלְקַחְתֶּם אֲגֻדַּת אֵזוֹב וּטְבַלְתֶּם בַּדָּם אֲשֶׁר בַּסַּף וְהִגַּעְתֶּם”— “And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch it” (Exodus 12:22), etc.
Hyssop (אֵזוֹב) — we have explained it — that it passes over evil spirits, and every side of evil smell it passes over with its arousal, for the upper redemption of Israel.
Notes:
God saw the Passover blood and covenant blood on the door, protecting Israel. Hyssop (אֵזוֹב) is explained as a means to pass over evil spirits and impure smells, aiding the upper redemption of Israel by clearing spiritual obstacles during the Exodus.
