“and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.”
The herdsmen of Abram represent the side of the good inclination and the herdsmen of Lot represent the guides of the evil inclination. Both camps fight to influence our thoughts, driving us to action of good or bad.
The soul and good inclination are on the Right and the evil inclination and the Snake are on the Left. The fight between the right and the left cause the body to be in pain.

Genesis 13:8
“Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen”
Abraham represents the Neshama that wants to disconnect from the evil side. He offered his brother to part their ways.
Genesis 13:9
Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.”
Lesson;
The way to ‘fight’ and push away the negative side is to keep distance by going the opposite direction. Spiritual distance is not measured by miles but by consciousness and action.
When we feel under the influence of the other-side meditate on קרע שטן (second line of the Ana BeChoach) and study Zohar to bring the Light in and push away darkness.
Another way not to get in trouble with the evil inclination is to restrict the thought before it gets developed. If we let it come and grow in our thoughts, it would be harder to push it away.
