Daily Zohar # 4043 – Balak – Why did you struck me
Daily Zohar 4043

“Then YHVH opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?”
The mouth of the female donkey was one of the things that were created on Shabbat Eve just before completing Creation. Rabbi Yitzchak asks, what gain comes from the words of the donkey to Balaam, or to the donkey, or to Israel? Rabbi Yossi said that the ministers that were with Balaam laughed at him. And when they came to Balak, they told him, you sent to call this fool, you will not find any truth in him or in his words. It was found that he got dishonored in these words of the donkey. Rabbi Chiya said that if the donkey had not told her words, Balaam would not have left his mission. But when he heard his donkey talking, he knew his power was broken.

Numbers 16:32
“and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods.”
Rabbi Elazar asked, what is the difference between “YHVH opened the mouth of the donkey” and “the earth opened its mouth.” He answers that Moshe decreed the opening of the mouth. And the earth opened its mouth and did the commandment of Moses. It is not proper that the Holy One Blessed be He does the commandment of Moses. For Moses decreed and commanded, and the earth opened its mouth. But here, with the donkey, no one decreed, but HaShem’s will was, and since His will was in this, it is written, “and YHVH opened the mouth of the donkey.” It came from HaShem, and his will became a reality.
