Daily Zohar # 5077 – Mishpatim – The evil is not equal in all cases
Daily Zohar 5077

Zohar Mishpatim
Continued from previous DZ
#179
Obed was rectified and emerged from within the evil field of broken cisterns. Then came Jesse, his son, and he repaired and fenced the tree. Yet with all this, this is the secret of secrets, and I do not know whether to speak or not to speak. “Speak your words, old man.”
He said: “Indeed, I will speak.”
In this, all the other reincarnated are recognized.
Obed, nevertheless, repaired the tree. But when King David came, he remained in the lower tree of the female, which is Malchut, and he needed to receive life from another, for he had no life of his own. (as explained earlier in Vayishlach, section 53) And if this one — who was rectified and repaired everything — was so, then all the other people who come through reincarnation, who cannot be rectified in this way — all the more so.
Notes:
The Zohar teaches that even the most rectified souls are not self-sustaining.
True life does not originate from the self, but from connection —
from attachment to higher spiritual structures and divine flow.
If King David, embodiment of Malchut, required life from above,
then every soul returning through reincarnation must recognize its dependence on rectification, humility, and divine support.
Spiritual perfection is not autonomy — it is alignment.
#180
In all aspects, it turns toward reincarnation (gilgul). Peretz was so, for he was the reincarnation of Er. Boaz was so, for he was the reincarnation of Judah. Obed was so, for he was the reincarnation of Mahlon.
And in all of them, the tree first emerged from the side of evil,
and afterward became attached to the side of good.
At first, it is written: “וַיְהִי עֵר בְּכוֹר יְהוּדָה רַע” “And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil” (Genesis 38:7). Mahlon too was evil — but not to the same degree. But in these, the evil was clarified and removed,
and afterward the good emerged, as it is written concerning him: “וְטוֹב רֹאִי” “And good was seen”, and “וַה’ עִמּוֹ” “And Hashem was with him.” Here, the lower tree, which is Malchut, stood in its proper rectification. And thus it is written: “וּמֶלֶךְ אֱלֹהִים עַל גּוֹיִם” “God reigns over the nations.” (Psalms 47:9)
Notes:
Er, Mahlon, and Judah represent earlier, flawed states. Peretz, Boaz, and Obed are their rectified continuations. Evil is not destroyed immediately, but refined, separated, and transformed.
The Zohar emphasizes that: The evil is not equal in all cases (“Mahlon was not as evil”). Yet all required gilgul to complete what was lacking.
When the verse says: “And Hashem was with him,” it signals that the rectification succeeded — Divine presence now rests upon the soul. At this stage, Malchut, the “lower tree,” becomes stable and fit for kingship. Only then can divine sovereignty manifest fully in the world.
