Daily Zohar # 5154 – Vayikra – The worthy job is for the pious
Daily Zohar 5154
Hebrew translation:
.
Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#314
And if the priest or the Levite is found worthy, they place upon him the burden of the Sanctuary, and if not, he does not ascend to the service. This is what is written: “וְלַלֵּוִי אָמַר תּוּמֶיךָ וְאוּרֶיךָ לְאִישׁ חֲסִידֶךָ” “And of Levi he said: Your Urim and Your Tummim be with Your pious one” (Deuteronomy 33:8).
Why did he merit the Urim and Tummim and perform the service? You must say: “אֲשֶׁר נִסִּיתוֹ” etc., “whom You tested” etc. (Deuteronomy 33:8) — for You tested him beforehand and saw that he was worthy for this. “הָאֹמֵר לְאָבִיו וּלְאִמּוֹ לֹא רְאִיתִיו” etc. “who said of his father and his mother: I have not seen him” etc. (Deuteronomy 33:9).
And once he is found in these levels, then: “יוֹרוּ מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ לְיַעֲקֹב” etc. “They shall teach Your judgments to Jacob” etc. (Deuteronomy 33:10), “יָשִׂימוּ קְטוֹרָה” etc., “they shall put incense” etc. — that they should offer incense to subdue anger and to prepare peace. “וְכָלִיל עַל מִזְבְּחֶךָ” “and whole burnt offering upon Your altar” (Deuteronomy 33:10) — so that everything be sweetened, and blessings be found in all the worlds. “בָּרֵךְ יְהוָה חֵילוֹ” etc. “Bless, YHVH, his substance” etc. (Deuteronomy 33:11).
Notes:
The Zohar stresses the rigorous spiritual standards required for priests and Levites, only after being thoroughly tested and proving complete devotion (even to the point of distancing from family for the sake of divine service) are they granted the Urim and Tummim and permitted to perform the Temple service.
Their role is to teach Torah, offer incense to sweeten divine anger, and bring peace and blessing to all worlds through the sacrifices. When a worthy priest serves, he becomes a channel through which blessings are drawn down from the upper realms to Israel and all creation. This underscores why the Torah demands such high standards for those who represent the people before Hashem in the Sanctuary.
