Zohar Vayikra
Continued from previous DZ
#370
Fortunate is the portion of one who awakens from his sleep at that time and occupies himself with Torah. And everyone who rises at that time and strives in Torah is called a companion of the Holy One, blessed be He, and of Knesset Yisrael. And not only that, but they are called brothers and friends to Him, as it is written: “לְמַעַן אַחַי וְרֵעָי אֲדַבְּרָה נָא שָׁלוֹם בָּךְ” “For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now speak peace concerning you” (Psalms 122:8). And they are called companions with the supernal angels and the supernal camps, as it is written: “חֲבֵרִים מַקְשִׁיבִים לְקוֹלֵךְ” “The companions hearken to your voice” (Song of Songs 8:13).
#371
When the day comes, a herald stands and proclaims, and the gates of the south side are opened, and the stars and constellations awaken, and the gates of mercy are opened. And the King sits and receives praises from the companions who arose at night. Then Knesset Yisrael takes these words of praise and ascends to the King, who is Zeir Anpin. And all these companions who arose at night are grasped in the wings of the Queen, and their words of praise come and dwell in the bosom of the King. Then the King commands that all these words be written.
Notes:
The Zohar highly praises the great merit of those who rise at midnight to study Torah. They become companions of both the Holy One and Knesset Yisrael, brothers and friends to the divine, and companions to the supernal angels. Their Torah study and praise at this holy hour are received by the King (Zeir Anpin) through Malchut.
At dawn, the gates of mercy open, the celestial bodies awaken, and the King receives the praises of the night. The companions’ words are inscribed above, and they themselves are held in Malchut’s wings. This reveals midnight Torah study as one of the highest forms of service, directly contributing to divine joy and the flow of blessing into the world.
