Zohar Vayera
Continued from previous DZ
#209
He opened and said, “מִן־הַשְּׁלֹשִׁים הֲכִי נִכְבָּד” “Of the thirty, most honored…” (2 Samuel 23:23). These are the thirty righteous ones that the Holy One, blessed be He, prepared for the world, that they should not be lacking from the world in every generation. And of Benaiahu, the son of Jehoiada, it is written, “of the thirty, most honored,” that he is one of them. That is, there are three others upon whom the world stands, and he is not weighed as they are.
Notes:
The thirty righteous ones prepared for every generation are hinted in the verse about Benaiahu. He is one of the thirty, yet there are three greater ones upon whom the world stands, and he is not equal to them.
#210
“וְאֶל־הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה לֹא־בָא” “And to the three he did not come” (2 Samuel 23:23), that is, to be in their number as one of them. In these thirty righteous ones he merited to enter in their count, but “to the three he did not come,” that he did not merit to join with them and to be with them in one portion. “יהיה” “Will be,” it is as we have learned, that it is thirty, and because of this the Holy One, blessed be He, blessed him that he should be weighed as these thirty righteous ones.
Notes:
Benaiahu entered the count of the thirty righteous ones, but he did not join the three greater ones. “Will be” equals thirty, and Abraham was blessed to be weighed as those thirty.
