Who is Obligated?
Women are not obligated to give, unless they have done so in previous years and wish to continue. Men aged 20 and older are obligated to make this connection. Those aged 13 and older are also included if they have given before or wish to take on this mitzvah.

How Much to Give?
Opinions among the Rabbis vary. Some hold that half of a local coin is sufficient, as today's giving is a Zecher — a remembrance of the half-shekel — rather than the original Temple obligation. Others recommend that the head of the household give the full equivalent (the value of 9.6 grams of silver) and half a local coin for each remaining member of the household.
Follow your heart and your own consciousness. There is no single right answer.
