Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -1083
Hebrew translation:

36. אָמַר לוֹ הָרוֹעֶה הַנֶּאֱמָן, יָפֶה אָמַרְתָּ, אֲבָל מִשּׁוּם שֶׁאֵלִיָּהוּ, שֶׁהוּא פִּנְחָס, קִנֵּא עַל הַבְּרִית, צָרִיךְ לְחַדֵּשׁ דְּבָרִים רַבִּים בָּהּ, שֶׁהֲרֵי הַפָּרָשָׁה כְּתוּבָה בַּתּוֹרָה עַל שְׁמוֹ, שֶׁעָלָיו נֶאֱמַר (מלכים-א יט) קַנֹּא קִנֵּאתִי, שְׁתֵּי קְנָאוֹת. אַחַת בְּשַׁדַּ”י שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה, וְהַשֵּׁנִית בְּשַׁדַּ”י שֶׁלְּמַטָּה. וְלָכֵן עָשָׂה שְׁתֵּי שְׁבוּעוֹת (בִּשְׁנֵי לֹא לֹא) (בְּפַעֲמַיִם) בִּשְׁתֵּיהֶן, וּפַעֲמַיִם לֹא לֹא.
37. אֲבָל רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אָמַר, מִי שֶׁרוֹאֶה קֶשֶׁת בִּגְוָנִים מְאִירִים, צָרִיךְ לְבָרֵךְ בָּרוּךְ זוֹכֵר הַבְּרִית. וּבַגָּלוּת, שֶׁאֵינָהּ מְאִירָה בִּגְוָנֶיהָ כָּרָאוּי, וְלֹא עוֹד, אֶלָּא שֶׁלִּפְעָמִים מְאִירָה מְעַט וְלִפְעָמִים לֹא מְאִירָה בִּכְלָל, לִפְעָמִים נִרְאֵית בִּשְׁלֵמוּת וְלִפְעָמִים לֹא. שֶׁקֶּשֶׁת רוֹמֶזֶת גְּוָנֶיהָ לִזְכֻיּוֹת הַכֹּהֲנִים לְוִיִּם וְיִשְׂרְאֵלִים כְּשֶׁהֵם יָפִים, שֶׁהַקֶּשֶׁת מְאִירָה בִּגְוָנֶיהָ שֶׁהֵם שְׁלֹשָׁה.
38. קוּם אַתָּה רַבִּי יוֹסֵי הַגְּלִילִי וֶאֱמֹר, שֶׁהֲרֵי דְּבָרִים יָפִים אָמַרְתָּ בַּחִבּוּר הָרִאשׁוֹן, שֶׁקֶּשֶׁת לֹא בָאָה אֶלָּא לְהָגֵן עַל הָעוֹלָם. לְמֶלֶךְ, שֶׁבְּכָל זְמַן שֶׁבְּנוֹ חוֹטֵא וְהַמֶּלֶךְ רוֹאֶה אֶת הַמַּלְכָּה, מִסְתַּלֵּק רֹגֶז בְּנוֹ, שֶׁכָּתוּב (בראשית יט) וּרְאִיתִיהָ לִזְכֹּר בְּרִית עוֹלָם. וְלָכֵן לֹא נִרְאֵית קֶשֶׁת אֶלָּא לְהָגֵן עַל הָעוֹלָם. וְלֹא נִגְלֵית אֶלָּא בִּלְבוּשׁ נִכְבָּד שֶׁל מַלְכוּת, וּבְשָׁעָה שֶׁיֵּשׁ צַדִּיק בָּאָרֶץ, הוּא הַבְּרִית, לְהַעֲמִיד בְּרִית.

Pinchas 36 – 38

The ‘faithful shepherd’, who is Moses, is stating here that Elijah (the prophet) is Pinchas and there is a lot of secrets in the Parasha that is on his name.

There were about few hundred years between Pinchas and Elijah. Pinchas, as the Zohar tells us, never died. He also never sinned and when he left the world as Elijah, it happened with his physical body. He was 100% pure and holy and ascended up with fire so no negative elements could touch him in the ascension process.
It was similar to the way the souls of Nadav and Avihu were taken from them before given to Pinchas. In this case Elijah, who is Pinchas, didn’t lose his body because God blessed him with Immortality. Because of the way he went up, Elijah can move between the physical and spiritual worlds at will. We read from the Zohar that he came down to teach Rabbi Shimon many times.

The soul of Rabbi Shimon was also pure and ascended to heaven surrounded with fire.

In several places in the Bible we see the relations between Elijah and Pinchas.

One major aspect is the ‘jealousy’ and fighting the negative side.

Pinchas: Numbers 25:11
“פִּינְחָס בֶּן-אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן-אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן, הֵשִׁיב אֶת-חֲמָתִי מֵעַל בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּקַנְאוֹ אֶת-קִנְאָתִי, בְּתוֹכָם; וְלֹא-כִלִּיתִי אֶת-בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּקִנְאָתִי”
“Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned My wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was very jealous for My sake among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in My jealousy.”

Elijah: 1 Kings 19:14
“וַיֹּאמֶר קַנֹּא קִנֵּאתִי לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת, כִּי-עָזְבוּ בְרִיתְךָ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל–אֶת-מִזְבְּחֹתֶיךָ הָרָסוּ, וְאֶת-נְבִיאֶיךָ הָרְגוּ בֶחָרֶב; וָאִוָּתֵר אֲנִי לְבַדִּי, וַיְבַקְשׁוּ אֶת-נַפְשִׁי לְקַחְתָּהּ”
“And he said: ‘I have been very jealous for YHVH, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down Thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.’”

Elijah is called מבשר שלום, ‘the announcer of peace’. Pinchas received the covenant of peace and Elijah is the announcer of the final peace that will come at the Final Redemption.

Malachi 3:23
“ הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי שֹׁלֵחַ לָכֶם, אֵת אֵלִיָּה הַנָּבִיא–לִפְנֵי, בּוֹא יוֹם יְהוָה, הַגָּדוֹל, וְהַנּוֹרָא”
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of YHVH”

Pinchas corrected the level of Yessod when he killed Zimri and Kozbi. Elijah is a witness in all circumcision ceremonies that make the first correction of a male child and remove the foreskin that is the aspect of the negativity attached to the body after the first sin.
