Daily Zohar # 2274 – Lech Lecha – Subdue the Snake
Zohar Lech Lecha
Continued from previous DZ
“And all the possessions they had accumulated’ (Genesis 12:5), is the aspect of the good deeds/precepts a person did in this world.
“and the persons (Nefesh) which they had acquired in Haran” is the aspect of the lower level of the soul that was subject to the influence of the Snake but was corrected. The soul level of Nefesh is in the blood that keeps the body alive. The pleasures of the world directly affect the blood and the soul level of Nefesh. That is why it’s easier to fall into the hands of the Snake and lose spiritual connections and soul levels. The Snake offers tempting but temporary ‘trade-offs’ that throw us off the path. We can resist him by keeping our daily prayers/ meditations and Zohar study.
“וַיַּעֲבֹר אַבְרָם, בָּאָרֶץ, עַד מְקוֹם שְׁכֶם, עַד אֵלוֹן מוֹרֶה; וְהַכְּנַעֲנִי, אָז בָּאָרֶץ”
“Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites.”
The Zohar reveals that Shechem is the place where the Shechinah dwells. After Abraham controlled the Snake part in himself, and followed the words of God he could travel to the Holy Land to where the Shechinah dwelled. We know that Yosef Hatzadik (Joseph the righteous), who is the aspect of Yessod, is buried in Shechem for that reason. When the Israelites brought his bones (essence) with them from Egypt, they knew exactly where is the proper place for him.
Connecting to Joseph gives us great spiritual support and ability to subdue the Snake in us.
