Thirteen people were given to the angel of death as a guarantee instead of me to take me and the difficult judgment from under his hold. Then the Holy One Blessed be He called the angel of death. He commanded him to return for me after twenty-two years because the thirteen persons whom he has given instead of me are not considered to be a guarantee to release me from death forever, but they were given him as a pledge in his hands. The thirteen were already on the list for death by the hands of the angel of death, but their time was shortened. Therefore, they were not a guarantee to release me from dying altogether. But my time was extended to twenty-two years. Now friends, know that because the Holy One Blessed be He saw that you are truly righteous, the miracle happened before your eyes.

Lesson;
The soul of Rabbi Yossi left his body by the angel of death. His son’s actions changed the judgment in the upper world, and his soul was taken back from the hands of the angel of death and restored to his physical body, meaning revived.
The thirteen people guaranteed him to complete the 22 years without sins. We understand that if he were to sin, their lives wouldn’t be shortened as ‘traded’ for his 22 years. On average, each of the thirteen contributed less than two years each, and their death would be only sometime after the additional 22 years given to Rabbi Yossi.

Rabbi Yossi opened and said;
1 Samuel 2:6
“יְהוָה מֵמִית וּמְחַיֶּה מוֹרִיד שְׁאוֹל וַיָּעַל.”
“YHVH kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up.”
This verse should be looked at. Can we say that YHVH kills, for his name is a potion of life for all, and this thing, death, is not part of him? This name gives life to the whole world. People think that “YHVH kills” all human beings. A person is surely dead when YHVH leaves him, because while he is part of the person, none of the adversaries in the world can harm him. But when he leaves him, all the adversaries of the world can immediately get to him, and the person dies.

Lesson;

The whole Torah is a holy name, and there is nothing in the Torah that is not included in the holy name. And therefore, one should be careful not to err in his holy name and not to lie in it. And he who lies to the supreme king does not enter the king’s palace and would be removed from the world to come.

תָּנֵינָן, אוֹרַיְיתָא כֹּלָּא שְׁמָא קַדִּישָׁא הִיא, דְּלֵית לָךְ מִלָּה בְּאוֹרַיְיתָא דְּלָא כָּלִיל בִּשְׁמָא קַדִּישָׁא. וּבְגִינִי כַּךְ, בָּעֵי לְאִזְדַּהֲרָא, בְּגִין דְּלָא יִטְעֵי בִּשְׁמֵיהּ קַדִּישָׁא, וְלָא יְשַׁקֵּר בֵּיהּ. וּמַאן דִּמְשַׁקֵּר בְּמַלְכָּא עִלָּאָה, לָא עָאלִין לֵיהּ לִפַלְטְרוֹי דְּמַלְכָּא, וְיִשְׁתְּצֵי מֵעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי.
שָׁנִינוּ, כָּל הַתּוֹרָה הִיא שֵׁם קָדוֹשׁ, שֶׁאֵין לְךָ דָּבָר בַּתּוֹרָה שֶׁלֹּא כָלוּל בַּשֵּׁם הַקָּדוֹשׁ, וּמִשּׁוּם כָּךְ צָרִיךְ לְהִזָּהֵר שֶׁלֹּא יִטְעֶה בִּשְׁמוֹ הַקָּדוֹשׁ וְלֹא יְשַׁקֵּר בּוֹ. וּמִי שֶׁמְּשַׁקֵּר בַּמֶּלֶךְ הָעֶלְיוֹן, לֹא מַכְנִיסִים אוֹתוֹ לַפַּלְטֵרִין שֶׁל הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְיֻשְׁמַד מִן הָעוֹלָם הַבָּא.

Proverbs 3:18
“עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותומכיה מאושר:
“The Torah is the Tree of Life for those who cling to her, and her supporters are blessed.”
