Rabbi Abba said I did not fully understand this saying about the Philistine, and I have to look into it. Rabbi Elazar said that this Philistine was close to the genealogy of David. He was the son of Orpah was, as it is written,
1 Samuel 17:23
“וְהוּא מְדַבֵּר עִמָּם וְהִנֵּה אִישׁ הַבֵּנַיִם עוֹלֶה גָּלְיָת הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי שְׁמוֹ מִגַּת ממערות [מִמַּעַרְכוֹת] פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיְדַבֵּר כַּדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיִּשְׁמַע דָּוִד.”
“Then, as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the (caves) armies of the Philistines, and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them.”

The verse is written with the word ‘Caves (מערות),’ but it is required to read the word as ‘Armies (מערכות)’ to refer to the cave he made for his mother, Orpah.
It is written
1 Samuel 17:43
“וַיֹּאמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶל דָּוִד הֲכֶלֶב אָנֹכִי כִּי אַתָּה בָא אֵלַי בַּמַּקְלוֹת וַיְקַלֵּל הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶת דָּוִד בֵּאלֹהָיו.”
“So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.”

Because Goliath, the Philistine, cursed David’ by his god, David looked at him with an evil eye. And wherever David would look with the evil eye, all kinds of leprosy would be drawn from his eyes. And so it was with Yoav., as it is written;
2 Samuel 3:29
“יָחֻלוּ עַל רֹאשׁ יוֹאָב וְאֶל כָּל בֵּית אָבִיו וְאַל יִכָּרֵת מִבֵּית יוֹאָב זָב וּמְצֹרָע וּמַחֲזִיק בַּפֶּלֶךְ וְנֹפֵל בַּחֶרֶב וַחֲסַר לָחֶם.”
“Let it rest on the head of Joab and on all his father’s house; and let there never fail to be in the house of Joab one who has a discharge or is a leper, who leans on a staff or falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.”

Since the Philistine cursed Hashem, David looked at him with an evil eye and saw in his forehead that he became leprous; then we read, “the stone sank into his forehead.”
1 Samuel 17:49
“וַיִּשְׁלַח דָּוִד אֶת יָדוֹ אֶל הַכֶּלִי וַיִּקַּח מִשָּׁם אֶבֶן וַיְקַלַּע וַיַּךְ אֶת הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶל מִצְחוֹ וַתִּטְבַּע הָאֶבֶן בְּמִצְחוֹ וַיִּפֹּל עַל פָּנָיו אָרְצָה.”
“Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.”

Because of David’s bad look on him, leprosy had settled and stuck to his forehead, and the stone sank right into the forehead. This tells us that Goliath was a leper.

Lesson;
Because Goliath cursed the name, he opened himself to judgment, and leprosy infected him. David, with his eyes that are at the level of Chokmah on the pure side, negated and canceled the existence of the ‘head’ of the other side. Because of that, the stone could penetrate the giant’s head and take his life.
He cursed and rejected the name of Hashem and was punished.
We should carefully follow the third commandment.
Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of YHVH your God in vain, for YHVH will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.”
