חכמה

Chokmah (Wisdom) is the first Sefirah revealed after Keter and is called “the beginning” (Reshit), the point from which all Divine emanation unfolds into creation. Chokmah is the initial flash of Divine insight—a complete idea perceived in an instant before it has been analyzed, expanded, or articulated. For this reason, it is often compared to a bolt of lightning that briefly illuminates an entire landscape. In the Zohar, Chokmah is referred to as the primordial mind and the hidden point from which all spiritual and physical structures emerge. As King David declared, “You have made them all with wisdom” (Psalms 104:24), teaching that Chokmah is the Divine blueprint underlying all existence.

In Kabbalistic thought, Chokmah represents the power of self-nullification before the Infinite Light of the Creator. Whereas Binah develops and elaborates an idea, Chokmah receives it directly from its supernal source. Therefore, Chokmah is closely associated with humility and openness to Divine truth. The sages taught, “Who is wise? One who learns from every person” (Pirkei Avot 4:1), revealing that true wisdom is attained when a person becomes a vessel capable of receiving higher understanding. Chokmah is the faculty of inner vision, the ability to perceive reality from its Divine root, and it serves as the source of inspiration, insight, and spiritual awakening.
