Daily Zohar # 4045 – Balak – A fool without a sword
Daily Zohar 4045

#450
The donkey said, “What have I done to you” meaning, “is it in my power to do good or bad” because animals do not behave except as they are driven. Even though the donkey was in great trouble, she was not in control because Balaam burdened her with his magic, and under his control, she stopped.
#451
Balaam should have laughed at her words, but instead, he answered her stupidly.
Numbers 22:29
“And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have abused me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now, I would kill you!”
Balak’s officials that accompanied Balaam laughed at him. He looked stupid in their eyes, and they knew that he was a fool. Balaam said, “because you abused me. If I had a sword in my hand?…” The ministers thought this fool was boasting that he could destroy nations with his mouth; how can he not destroy a donkey and also needs a sword for that?
We learned that there is no power in animals to imbue them with a spirit of wisdom. And if people say, if animals could talk, much wisdom would come into the world, we examine and learn from the words of the donkey whose mouth was opened by the Holy One, Blessed be He.
