Daily Zohar # 4047 – Balak – He cannot be bribed
Daily Zohar 4047

#455
The action of Balaam to build seven altars is similar to a man whose father left him with one that loves him. People feared quarrels with him because of the one that loved him. A man came and wanted to quarrel with him. He debated with himself about what to do, if I quarrel with him, he is connected with his beloved, and I can’t win.
He sent a gift to the one protecting him, but the protector said, what does this man have for me? I know that he wants to hurt my beloved son. He commanded, this gift will not come before me. Cast this gift to the dogs, and they will eat it.
#456
Thus Balaam came to provoke a quarrel with Israel and saw that he could not because they have a supreme lover. He began to fix a gift before him, namely the sacrifices he offered. The Holy One Blessed be He said, Wicked, and what have you to do with me, you want to get to my sons, but your gift is given to dogs. It is written
Numbers 23:16
“Then YHVH met (וַיִּקָּר) Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Go back to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”
Rabbi Shimon said that the word “וַיִּקָּר” refers to impurity, and telling Balaam that his gift is unaccepted, given to the dogs, and he can’t come into the pure side.
Lesson;
The only condition to enter the pure side of Hashem and draw benefits is to become pure. Offering ‘gifts’ and conditions to Hashem are not accepted when they are attached to personal agendas and claims for entitlements. HaShem cannot be ‘bribed.’
