Therefore, it is written,
Leviticus 23:42
“בַּסֻּכֹּת תֵּשְׁבוּ שִׁבְעַת יָמִים כָּל הָאֶזְרָח בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל יֵשְׁבוּ בַּסֻּכֹּת.”
“You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths,”
Anyone from the root and holy branch of Israel shall dwell in Sukkot under the shade of faith. And those not from the sacred root and branch of Israel will not dwell in them and remove themselves from beneath the shade of faith.

It is written, “כְּנַעַן בְּיָדוֹ מֹאזְנֵי מִרְמָה לַעֲשֹׁק אָהֵב” “Canaan has dishonest scales in his hand,” (Hosea 12:8) which refers to Eliezer, the servant of Abraham. Come and see, it is written, “אָרוּר כְּנָעַן” “Cursed be Canaan.” (Genesis 9:25). Because this Canaan, who is Eliezer, merited to serve Abraham and dwelt under the shade of faith, he merited to escape from that curse that was pronounced upon him. Moreover, it is written about him in blessing, as it is said, “בּוֹא בְּרוּךְ יְהוָה” “Come in, blessed by Hashem.” What does this teach us? It teaches that whoever dwells under the shade of faith grants freedom to himself and his descendants forever and is blessed with the highest blessing. And those who remove themselves from the shade of faith bring exile to themselves and their descendants. As it is written,
Exodus 21:1
“וַיִּשְׁמַע הַכְּנַעֲנִי מֶלֶךְ עֲרָד יֹשֵׁב הַנֶּגֶב כִּי בָּא יִשְׂרָאֵל דֶּרֶךְ הָאֲתָרִים וַיִּלָּחֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּשְׁבְּ מִמֶּנּוּ שֶׁבִי”
“The king of Arad, the Canaanite, who dwelt in the South, heard that Israel was coming on the road to Atharim. Then he fought against Israel and took some of them prisoners.”

The phrase “בסכות תשבו” “You shall dwell in Sukkot” has the word “סוכות” written without a ‘ו’ (vav), which usually indicates the plural. This is because the term “סוכות” here implies only one cloud, that of Chessed, in which all the other six clouds are bound. Therefore, the holiday lasts seven days, as it is written,
Numbers 10:34
“וַעֲנַן יְהוָה עֲלֵיהֶם יוֹמָם בְּנָסְעָם מִן הַמַּחֲנֶה”
“And the cloud of YHVH was above them by day when they went out from the camp.”
And it is written,
Exodus 13:21
“וַיהוָה הֹלֵךְ לִפְנֵיהֶם יוֹמָם בְּעַמּוּד עָנָן לַנְחֹתָם הַדֶּרֶךְ וְלַיְלָה בְּעַמּוּד אֵשׁ לְהָאִיר לָהֶם לָלֶכֶת יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה.”
“And YHVH went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, to go by day and night.”
“יוֹמָם” “by day” is the cloud of Aaron, which is Chessed, and is called “day,” as it is written, “יוֹמָם יְצַוֶּה יְהוָה חַסְדּוֹ” “By day, YHVH commands His Chessed.” (Psalm 42:9)
The single cloud, which is Chessed, carries with it five other clouds, which are Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, and Yessod, making them six, and another cloud, as it is written about it “וְלַיְלָה בְּעַמּוּד אֵשׁ” “and in a pillar of fire by night,” which is Malchut, illuminates Israel with the illumination from these six clouds.
