249. וְלָמַדְנוּ, עֲשֶׂרֶת מִינֵי הַחָכְמוֹת הַלָּלוּ יָרְדוּ לָעוֹלָם, וְכֻלָּם נִטְמְאוּ (נִשְׁאֲבוּ) בְמִצְרַיִם, פְּרָט לְאֶחָד שֶׁהִתְפַּשֵּׁט בָּעוֹלָם, וְכֻלָּם הֵם מִינֵי כְשָׁפִים, וּמֵהֶם יָדְעוּ הַמִּצְרִים כְּשָׁפִים עַל כָּל בְּנֵי הָעוֹלָם. וּכְשֶׁהַמִּצְרִים רָצוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת כִּנּוּס בְּכִשְׁפֵיהֶם לְמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם, הָיוּ יוֹצְאִים לַשָּׂדֶה לֶהָרִים הַגְּבוֹהִים, וְזוֹבְחִים זְבָחִים, וְעוֹשִׂים גֻּמּוֹת בָּאָרֶץ, וּמְסוֹבְבִים אוֹתוֹ הַדָּם סְבִיב הַגֻּמּוֹת הַלָּלוּ, וּשְׁאָר הַדָּם מְכַנְּסִים בַּגֻּמּוֹת הַלָּלוּ, וְשָׂמִים עֲלֵיהֶם בָּשָׂר, וּמַקְרִיבִים אֶת קָרְבְּנוֹתֵיהֶם לְאוֹתָם הַמִּינִים הָרָעִים, וְאוֹתָם הַמִּינִים הָרָעִים מִתְכַּנְּסִים וּמִתְקָרְבִים כְּאֶחָד, וּמִתְפַּיְּסִים עִמָּם בְּאוֹתוֹ הָהָר.
250. יִשְׂרָאֵל שֶׁהָיוּ מְשֻׁעְבָּדִים לָהֶם, הָיוּ מִתְקָרְבִים לָהֶם, וְלָמְדוּ מֵהֶם, וְהָיוּ טוֹעִים אַחֲרֵיהֶם. וְהַיְנוּ מַה שֶּׁכָּתוּב, כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר יְשַׁבְתֶּם בָּהּ לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ וּכְמַעֲשֵׂה אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן וְגוֹ’. וְכָתוּב וְלֹא יִזְבְּחוּ עוֹד אֶת זִבְחֵיהֶם לַשְּׂעִירִים וְגוֹ’. לָמַדְנוּ, בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁהָיוּ מַקְרִיבִים לָהֶם עַל גַּבֵּי הַשָּׂדֶה וְהָיוּ מְזַמְּנִים אוֹתוֹ הַדָּם וּמַקְרִיבִים קָרְבְּנוֹתֵיהֶם, הָיוּ מִתְכַּנְּסִים כָּל אוֹתָם מִינִים רָעִים, וְרוֹאִים אוֹתָם כְּמוֹ הַשְּׂעִירִים, כֻּלָּם מְלֵאִים בְּשֵׂעָר, וּמוֹדִיעִים לָהֶם מַה שֶּׁהֵם רוֹצִים.

We have learned that ten levels of Chokma of the Klipot descended into the world. All of them were concentrated and defiled in Egypt, except for one that spread throughout the rest of the world outside of Egypt. These are all types of sorcery, and from them, Egypt knew sorcery better than all the other nations of the world. When the Egyptians wanted to gather their sorcery for their deeds, they would go out to the fields, to the high mountains, and offer sacrifices. They would dig trenches in the ground and circle them with blood, while the rest of the blood collected in the trenches, on which they placed the meat. They would offer sacrifices to these evil forces, and these evil forces would gather and approach them on that mountain, becoming appeased with them.

Notes:
This Zohar explains the dark practices of ancient Egypt, particularly their mastery of sorcery (kishufim) and how these impure forms of wisdom (Chokmot) were centered there. The ten levels of Chokmah mentioned here refer to negative, impure forces that correspond to the ten Sefirot on the side of impurity, or Klipot. Egypt, being known for its deep involvement in the occult, had access to this impure wisdom more than any other nation.
The Egyptians’ rituals to invoke these forces are described in detail. They would perform these dark rites by offering blood sacrifices, creating trenches in the ground, and pouring the blood in a way that formed a circle around the trench. The forces of impurity were drawn to these offerings, and the Egyptians would engage with them on mountains, using these rites to manipulate and harness the powers of sorcery.
The paragraph highlights the contrast between the pure level of Chokmah and the misuse of spiritual forces, demonstrating how impurity and sorcery were practiced in opposition to the holy Sefirot. It serves as a reminder of the dangers of harnessing spiritual energy for impure purposes and how Egypt became a hub for such dark practices.

The Israelites, who were under the bondage of the Egyptians, began to draw near to them and learn from their ways, and they were led astray after them. This is what is written: 
Leviticus 18:3
“כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר יְשַׁבְתֶּם בָּהּ לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ וּכְמַעֲשֵׂה אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מֵבִיא אֶתְכֶם שָׁמָּה לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ וּבְחֻקֹּתֵיהֶם לֹא תֵלֵכוּ.”
“According to the doings of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do; nor shall you walk in their ordinances.”
And it is also written,
Leviticus 17:7
“וְלֹא יִזְבְּחוּ עוֹד אֶת זִבְחֵיהֶם לַשְּׂעִירִם אֲשֶׁר הֵם זֹנִים אַחֲרֵיהֶם חֻקַּת עוֹלָם תִּהְיֶה זֹּאת לָהֶם לְדֹרֹתָם.”
“They shall no more offer their sacrifices to demons, after whom they have played the harlot. This shall be a statute forever for them throughout their generations.” 
We have learned that when they would offer sacrifices in the open field, prepare the blood, and present their offerings, all these evil forces would gather. They appeared to them like שְּׂעִירִים (hairy demons, goat shape), for they were covered in hair, and they would reveal to them whatever they wished to know.

Notes:
This passage reflects on the negative influence that the Egyptians had on the Israelites during their time of enslavement in Egypt. The Israelites, having lived among the Egyptians for many years, were exposed to their practices, including idolatry and sorcery. The text refers to how they were led astray by the ways of Egypt, even though later, in the Torah, they were explicitly commanded not to follow these practices when they entered the Land of Israel or Canaan.
The text also highlights the rituals the Egyptians performed. They would offer sacrifices in open fields to summon and communicate with impure forces. These forces, known as שְּׂעִירִים Se’irim, would appear as demons covered in hair and respond to the requests of those who summoned them. This description emphasizes the visual and spiritual impurity associated with these beings.
This serves as a warning against the influence of paganism and idolatry, reminding us of the importance of maintaining spiritual purity and refraining from engaging with impure forces, as commanded in the Torah.
