Come and see, earlier, when Shimon came upon the donkey (Hamor, the father of Shechem) to fight against him, he first caused them to bleed as they were circumcised, and afterward, “וַיַּהַרְגוּ כָּל זָכָר” “And they killed every male” (Genesis 34:25). Similarly, the Holy One, Blessed be He, acted through Levi—this is Moses—against these donkeys, who are the Egyptians. First, He brought upon them the plague of blood, and afterward, “וַיַּהֲרֹג ה’ כָּל בְּכוֹר בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם” “And YHVH killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:29).
Here, regarding this donkey (Hamor, the father of Shechem), it is written: “וְאֶת כָּל חֵילָם וְאֶת כָּל טַפָּם וְאֶת כָּל בְּהֶמְתָּם” “And all their wealth, and all their children, and their flocks” (Genesis 34:29), as it says: “Their sheep, their cattle, their donkeys, and what was in the city and the field, they took.” And there, regarding these donkeys (the Egyptians), it is written: “כְּלֵי כֶסֶף וּכְלֵי זָהָב וּשְׂמָלֹת” “Articles of silver and articles of gold and clothing” (Exodus 12:35), corresponding to “all their wealth” mentioned here. And it is written: “וְגַם עֵרֶב רַב עָלָה אִתָּם וְצֹאן וּבָקָר” “And also a mixed multitude went up with them” (Exodus 12:38), corresponding to “all their children” mentioned here. And “flocks and herds, very much livestock” (Exodus 12:38) corresponds to “their sheep, their cattle, and their donkeys” mentioned here.

Shimon stood against this donkey, Hamor, the father of Shechem, who was not connected with the ox (symbol of Joseph). And this Levi stood against all the donkeys, meaning even against the donkeys that were connected with the ox, such as the Egyptians, as mentioned above.
Explanation: Shimon represents Gevurah and corresponds to the attribute of ox (the left side of holiness). Therefore, he was the one who stood opposite the donkey (Hamor), which represents the right side of the Klipah, and he was able to subdue it. However, Shimon could not subdue the Klipa of the donkeys in Egypt because they were connected with the ox, having received strength from Joseph, who ruled over them.
Thus, only Levi, meaning Moshe, who came from the tribe of Levi and represents Tiferet, which incorporates both right and left, was powerful enough to subdue the donkeys of Egypt. Shimon, possessing only the left (Gevurah), could not overpower them.

Now, in this final exile, where Esau bites and harms Israel and his children, who will stand against him? The answer is: Jacob and Joseph will stand against him—this one from one side and that one from the other side, meaning Jacob from the right side and Joseph from the left side. As it is written:
“וְהָיָה בֵית יַעֲקֹב אֵשׁ וּבֵית יוֹסֵף לֶהָבָה וּבֵית עֵשָׂו לְקַשׁ וְדָלְקוּ בָהֶם וַאֲכָלוּם וְלֹא־יִהְיֶה שָׂרִיד לְבֵית עֵשָׂו כִּי ה’ דִּבֵּר”
“The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau shall become stubble, and they shall kindle among them and consume them, and there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau, for YHVH has spoken” (Obadiah 1:18).
