Daily Zohar # 4747 – Miketz – Praying without immediate expectations
Daily Zohar 4747

Similarly, the sin of the tribes (the sale of Joseph) remains until a later time. This is because the heavenly judgment cannot act upon them until the appointed time arrives for retribution, and then it is exacted from them. Therefore, anyone with sins in their hands is constantly fearful, as it is written: “וּפָחַדְתָּ לַיְלָה וְיוֹמָם” “And you shall fear night and day” (Deuteronomy 28:66). And thus, “וְעַל כֵּן וַיִּירְאוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים כִּי הוּבְאוּ” “The men were afraid because they were brought into Joseph’s house” (Genesis 43:18).

Genesis 43:29
“Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?” And he said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”
Rabbi Chiya opened and said: “תּוֹחֶלֶת מְמֻשָּׁכָה מַחֲלָה־לֵב וְעֵץ חַיִּים תַּאֲוָה בָּאָה”—”Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12). This teaches us that a person should not look at their prayer to the Holy One, Blessed be He, to see whether their salvation has come or not. What is the reason? When one examines it, many forces of judgment come to scrutinize his deeds.
#210
And this is the secret: That very act of examining or scrutinizing one’s prayer causes “מַחֲלַת לֵב” (heart sickness). What is מַחֲלַת לֵב? It refers to the one who constantly stands over a person to accuse them both above and below—that is, the Sat-n.
Notes:
The faithful must trust in the Holy One, Blessed be He, without scrutinizing whether their prayers are fulfilled to avoid inviting judgment upon themselves. Faith and patience in Hashem’s providence are essential to protect oneself from the influence of Sat-n.
