Rabbi Ḥizkiyah was sitting before Rabbi Yitzchak. They rose at midnight to engage in Torah study. Rabbi Yitzhak opened and said: “הִנֵּה בָּרְכוּ אֶת ה’ כָּל עַבְדֵי ה'” “Behold, bless Hashem, all you servants of Hashem…” (Psalms 134:1). This verse—the friends have already established and taught its meaning. But this praise is for all those who are called “בְּנֵי הָאֱמוּנָה” ‘the children of faith.’ And who are the children of faith (Bnei Emunah)? They are those who engage in Torah study and know how to properly unify the Holy Name. And the praise of these children of faith is that they rise at midnight to study Torah, and they attach themselves to Congregation of Israel, which is Malchut, To praise the Holy One, Blessed be He, through words of Torah.

Come and see: At the moment when a person rises at midnight to study Torah, and the northern wind—which is the illumination of the left side (Gevurah)—awakens at midnight, that doe—which is the Shechinah (Malchut)—stands and praises the Holy One, Blessed be He, who is Zeir Anpin. And at the moment that she (the Shechinah) stands, many thousands and tens of thousands stand with her, and all begin to praise the Holy King.
Notes:
When a person gets up at midnight to study Torah, they are not alone—they join the awakening of the Shechinah, and countless spiritual beings rise with her to praise Hashem. The northern wind (Gevurah) initiates the process, but the Torah learning sweetens and elevates it, turning judgment into praise and darkness into light.
This passage beautifully portrays how one act of devotion—a single soul rising in the night—can awaken heaven itself, uplift Hashem’s presence, and bring harmony to all the worlds.
