178. וּכְשֶׁנִּתְקָן אַחַר כָּךְ כָּרָאוּי, אֵלּוּ מִשְׁתַּבְּחִים בָּעוֹלָם הַהוּא, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא מִתְרַצֶּה בָהֶם, וּמִשּׁוּם כָּךְ כָּתוּב (קהלת ד) וְשַׁבֵּחַ אֲנִי אֶת הַמֵּתִים שֶׁכְּבָר מֵתוּ, דַּוְקָא, מִן הַחַיִּים אֲשֶׁר הֵם חַיִּים עֲדֶנָה. מַה זֶּה עֲדֶנָה? כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (בראשית יח) אַחֲרֵי בְלֹתִי הָיְתָה לִּי עֶדְנָה, וְכָתוּב (איוב לג) יָשׁוּב לִימֵי עֲלוּמָיו.
179. וְטוֹב מִשְּׁנֵיהֶם אֵת אֲשֶׁר עֲדֶן לֹא הָיָה [שֶׁלֹּא שָׁב לִימֵי עֲלוּמָיו] אֲשֶׁר לֹא רָאָה אֶת הַמַּעֲשֶׂה הָרָע אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשָׂה תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ. וְטוֹב מִשְּׁנֵיהֶם אֵת אֲשֶׁר עֲדֶן לֹא הָיָה, שֶׁלֹּא שָׁב לִימֵי עֲלוּמָיו וְלֹא צָרִיךְ לְהִתְתַּקֵּן וְלֹא סוֹבֵל חֲטָאִים רִאשׁוֹנִים, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא נָתַן לוֹ מָקוֹם מְתֻקָּן בָּעוֹלָם הַהוּא כָּרָאוּי.
180. בֹּא רְאֵה מַה כָּתוּב? (קהלת ח) וּבְכֵן רָאִיתִי רְשָׁעִים קְבֻרִים וְגוֹ’, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא עוֹשֶׂה חֶסֶד וְלֹא רוֹצֶה לְכַלּוֹת אֶת הָעוֹלָם, אֶלָּא כְּמוֹ שֶׁנִּתְבָּאֵר, וְכָל דְּרָכָיו כֻּלָּם אֱמֶת וּזְכוּת לְהֵיטִיב לָהֶם בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וּבָעוֹלָם הַבָּא. אַשְׁרֵי חֶלְקָם שֶׁל הַצַּדִּיקִים שֶׁהֵם הוֹלְכִים בְּדֶרֶךְ הָאֱמֶת, עֲלֵיהֶם כָּתוּב (תהלים לז) צַדִּיקִים יִירְשׁוּ אָרֶץ.

And when they are rectified afterward as proper through the mentioned gilgul, they are praised in the world to come. For the Holy One, blessed be He, desires them. And therefore it is written: “וַאֲנִי מְשַׁבֵּחַ אֶת הַמֵּתִים שֶׁכְּבָר מֵתוּ מֵאֵת הַחַיִּים אֲשֶׁר הֵם חַיִּים עִמּוֹ”, “And I praise the dead who have already died, rather than the living who are still alive” (Ecclesiastes 4:2). Precisely, from the living who are still alive. Precisely through what they reincarnate in life and returned to the days of youth. What is “youth”? It is as it is
said: “אַחֲרֵי בְלוּתִי הָיְתָה לִי עֲדַנָה”, “After my old age, I had youth” (Genesis 18:12). And it is written: “יָשׁוּב לִימֵי עֻלְיו”, “He shall return to the days of his youth” (Job 33:25). That is, days of youth and vigor, that he returned to them through gilgul.

Notes:
Souls rectified through reincarnation are praised in the world to come (מְשַׁבֵּחַ אֶת הַמֵּתִים), as God desires them. Gilgul restores “youth” (לִימֵי עֻלְיו), returning the soul to vitality after “old age” (previous incarnations), ensuring perfection.

“וְטוֹב מִשְּׁנֵיהֶם אֵת אֲשֶׁר עֲדַן לֹא הָיָה”, “And better than both of them is he who has not yet been” (Ecclesiastes 4:3).
That is, he did not return to the days of his youth, meaning he did not reincarnate. For he is a perfect righteous one who does not need rectification through gilgul, and he does not suffer from the earlier sins. For the one who reincarnates suffers from the sins he committed in the previous gilgul. For the Holy One, blessed be He, gave him a rectified place in the world to come as proper.
Notes:
The perfect Tzaddik, without need for reincarnation, avoids suffering past sins and receives an immediate rectified place in the world to come. This contrasts the rectified soul’s direct ascent with the reincarnated soul’s ongoing purification.

Come and see: What is written? “וּבְכֵן רָאִיתִי רְשָׁעִים קְבֻרִים וָבָאוּ”, “And thus I saw the wicked buried and they came…” (Ecclesiastes 8:10).  This is as we said: they came in gilgul to be rectified. Because the Holy One, blessed be He, does kindness and does not want to destroy the world, but as we said, the wicked are rectified through gilgul. And all His ways are truth and compassion to do good for them in this world and in the world to come. Happy is the portion of the righteous who walk in the path of truth. About them it is written: “צַדִּיקִים יִירְשׁוּ אָרֶץ”, “The righteous shall inherit the land” (Proverbs 2:21).
Notes:
The wicked reincarnate (רְשָׁעִים קְבוּרִים) to rectify sins, reflecting God’s merciful kindness rather than destruction. The righteous, walking in truth, inherit the land (צַדִּיקִים יִירְשׁוּ), achieving direct rectification and the Resurrection without gilgul.
