226. פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (בראשית כב) וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר וַיַּחֲבֹשׁ אֶת חֲמוֹרוֹ וְגוֹ’. אוֹתוֹ הַבֹּקֶר שֶׁל אַבְרָהָם הָיָה מֵאִיר לַעֲמֹד עֲלֵיהֶם בִּזְכוּתוֹ, אָז זְכוּתוֹ שֶׁל אַבְרָהָם עָמְדָה עֲלֵיהֶם וְהָלְכוּ בְשָׁלוֹם וְנִצְּלוּ מִן הַדִּין, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁאוֹתָהּ הַשָּׁעָה עָמַד עֲלֵיהֶם הַדִּין לְהִפָּרַע מֵהֶם, רַק שֶׁזְּכוּת אוֹתוֹ הַבֹּקֶר שֶׁל אַבְרָהָם הֵגֵנָּה עֲלֵיהֶם וְנִשְׁלְחוּ מִן הַדִּין, שֶׁלֹּא שָׁלַט עֲלֵיהֶם בְּאוֹתוֹ זְמַן.
227. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (שמואל-ב כג) וּכְאוֹר בֹּקֶר יִזְרַח שָׁמֶשׁ – זֶהוּ הָאוֹר שֶׁל אוֹתוֹ בֹּקֶר שֶׁל אַבְרָהָם. יִזְרַח שָׁמֶשׁ – זֶה הוּא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ שֶׁל יַעֲקֹב, שֶׁכָּתוּב (בראשית לב) וַיִּזְרַח לוֹ הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ. בֹּקֶר לֹא עָבוֹת – שֶׁאוֹתוֹ בֹּקֶר הוּא לֹא כָּל כָּךְ עָבוֹת, אֶלָּא מִנֹּגַהּ מִמָּטָר. נֹגַהּ מִמָּטָר – הוּא הַמָּטָר שֶׁבָּא מִצַּד יִצְחָק, שֶׁאוֹתוֹ מָטָר מוֹצִיא דֶשֶׁא מִן הָאָרֶץ.

He opened and said: “וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר וַיַּחֲבֹשׁ אֶת חֲמֹרוֹ”, “And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey” (Genesis 22:3), etc. That morning of Abraham, which is Chessed, was shining to be found upon them, upon the tribes, through his merit. For the merit of Abraham stood for them, and they went in peace and were saved from judgment. For at that hour judgment stood over them to rid them, but the merit of that morning of Abraham protected them, and they were sent away from the place of judgment, for it did not prevail over them at that time.
Notes:
Abraham’s Chessed merit (בַּבֹּקֶר) protected the tribes from judgment, granting safe passage.

Rabbi Yehuda opened: “וּכְאוֹר בֹּקֶר יִזְרַח שָׁמֶשׁ”, “And like the light of morning, the sun will rise” (2 Samuel 23:4). This is the light of that morning of Abraham, that is, the light of Chessed.
“יִזְרַח שָׁמֶשׁ”, “the sun will rise,” this is the sun of Jacob, that is, the light of Tiferet, as it is written: “וַיִּזְרַח לוֹ הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ”, “and the sun rose for him” (Genesis 32:32).
“בֹּקֶר לֹא עָבוֹת”, “a morning without clouds” (2 Samuel 23:4), for that morning, which is the light of Chessed, is not cloudy at all, for judgments have no hold in it.
“מִנֹּגַהּ מִמָּטָר”, “from the brightness after rain” (2 Samuel 23:4), whose meaning is brightness that comes from rain, and it is the rain that comes from the side of Isaac, which is the light of Gevurah, and that rain brings forth grass from the earth.
Notes:
Rabbi Yehuda links the morning light to Abraham’s Chessed (cloudless, judgment-free), the rising sun to Jacob’s Tiferet, and rain-induced brightness to Isaac’s Gevurah, producing growth. This triad (Chessed-Gevurah-Tiferet) reflects the patriarchs’ illumination and sustains the world.
