#188
Rabbi Chiya said: What is written: בִּלַּע הַמָּוֶת לָנֶצַח—’He will swallow up death forever” (Isaiah 25:8). Rabbi Yossi said to him: When the Holy One, blessed be He, arouses His right, death will be swallowed up from the world. And this right will not be aroused except when Israel arouses to cleave to the right of the Holy One, blessed be He. And what is the right of the Holy One, blessed be He? It is the Torah, as it is written: “מִימִינוֹ אֵשׁ דָּת לָמוֹ”, “From His right hand went a fiery law for them” (Deuteronomy 33:2). At that time: “יְמִין ה’ עֹשָׂה חָיִל”, “The right hand of YHVH does mighty things” (Psalms 118:15), and it is written afterward: “לֹא אָמוּת כִּי אֶחְיֶה”, “I shall not die, but live” (Psalms 118:17). Behold, the right nullifies death.
Notes:
Death’s swallowing occurs when God’s right (Torah, Chessed) is aroused through Israel’s cleaving, nullifying death for eternal life. Torah from the right brings vitality.
#189
We have learned that the righteous one whom the Holy One, blessed be He, desires, a herald proclaims about him for thirty days among the righteous in the Garden of Eden. All the righteous rejoice, all the righteous come and adorn the place of that righteous one, until he comes to settle among them.
Notes:
A desired Tzadik’s soul is proclaimed for thirty days in the Garden of Eden, with the righteous rejoicing and adorning his place until he settles among them.
#190
And if he is wicked, a herald proclaims about him in Gehinnom for thirty days. And all the wicked, all of them are sad, all of them open and say: Woe, for a new judgment has now been aroused for the sake of so-and-so. How many accusers prepare to meet him, to precede him and say: Woe, woe to the wicked, woe to his neighbor.
Notes:
The wicked soul’s thirty-day proclamation in Gehinnom brings sorrow and new accusers, with cries of woe for the wicked and his neighbor.
